The players have been making much larger concessions than the owners, and are rightfully frustrated. The owners are essentially offering a worse deal than the previous one…trivial increases in the min salary, and harsher penalties for exceeding the cap.
I’ve now lost all hope of the regular season not being impacted. The players quite simply can’t accept what the owners are offering.
It seems like they're trying to break the union.
That's what's so frustrating here. The players started not-unreasonably high, and have made subsequent concessions, all with the primary goal of getting more money to younger and/or minimum-salary players, and a secondary goal of keeping teams throughout the league spending on talent. The owners' goal, meanwhile, is simply to break the union; they're not even really making concessions.
What if MLB thinks they can actually do it?
Then we're going to be watching 2021 playoff highlights to get our baseball fix for a while.
For sure. I’m just saying if MLB thought it could break the union would they be willing to sacrifice a season or two to make it happen? What’s the full chess game on this?
I highly doubt MLB owners will be willing to sacrifice a full season (and potentially the future of the sport) for this. This isn't 94. Social media has allowed for players to have a voice and for fans to be better informed. A lockout looks far worse for the owners than it does the players. Especially given it's already been reported the player's have made many concessions already in negotiations.
