Nope. The players would've gone on strike before the 2022 playoffs, should no new terms have been agreed upon before then; but they would've played the bulk of this season under the old CBA, if they'd been allowed.
Half the league making playoff seems dumb. But from the owners perspective I can see it. Keeps fans much more interested for longer. It will probably settle on 14 teams with some sort of greater comp going to players in playoffs.
The fact that MLB wants a watered-down, 14-team playoff, and the players are laying out to fight against it, should be enough reason for everyone to support MLBPA in this lopsided negotiation.
