Official official offseason thread

There is the link to Bowmans article regarding the Braves and Swanson. Thought this was an interesting statement....

Bothered by the absence of communication since the end of the season, Swanson called Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos to get a feel for where things stand. But these two parties haven’t had any legit negotiations since the offseason began.

If the Braves are going to stand pat or make minimal moves, I wish they would just say so already. If Dansby could have been had for $140, I cant imagine why AA didnt jump on that. I like Grissom, but I dont think he is our SS for the future, unless he is a stop gap and they believe in Shewmake

In a way it's nice to see MLB contracts going nuts again, but it sucks to see a "Top 5 Payroll" still puts the team $50M-$100M less than the real big boys.

It's not that nice as a season ticket holder though...

I'm about to have to pay 10 grand to sit in the Friggin outfield bleachers because payroll growth is outpacing inflation by about 14x the rate. They need to get a little bit of a grip on it.

I hate doing the classic Chip "its like making a trade without making a trade!" but important to remember...

Braves are getting a full season of Harris, full season of Strider as a starter, full season of Albies, full season (of healthier) Acuna, full season of Pina- none of which we had last season.

We definitely need to add, but the Philles and Mets are trying to catch up to us- not the other way around.

When you have that much money, not everything you do has to make financial sense. Have to remember that a $400m payroll is something like 4% of Cohen's personal net worth.

And when his money and smart people in the organization turn it around the Mets will be a cash cow so all it is in reality is just reinvested earnings.

Swanson is choosing between being filthy rich in Atlanta, or being flithier rich somewhere else. I don't fault anyone for taking the money they are worth, but I certainly don't feel sorry for a guy choosing between $100M and $160M.

The most amusing Mets drama will be in 3 years when Cohen loses interest in his pet project and stops pumping unlimited cash into payroll. The resulting fire sale is going to be an epic meltdown.

I mean he's got to be operating at a pretty heavy loss. He pretty much said that would be the case when he came on board, the team was losing money back then, and now look at the added payroll. Rich people typically don't like to lose money, so you may be right.

Reading Bowman's article: Why did Dansby feel it was time to call AA rather than having his agent make the call? Wonder if the problem is Close again.

This is an interesting point bc that’s what his agent's job is. Dansby shouldn’t be the one having to call AA. Close is a total dbag so I could see him not putting his best foot forward after the mess he created last year with AA.

AA I think low balled him so he could say he tried. I don’t believe he ever really had intentions of bringing him back unless it was cheap.
