Official official offseason thread

I still think he addresses LF. SS we'll just have to go with internally. I find it hard to believe AA's answer to LF is Hillard/Luplow/Rosario.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him bolt if/when things eventually turn sour. He’s never really been a part of a rebuild in his career, and he may not be interested in ever being part of one.

Of course, he could also get fired if things go really south.

I would agree with this but I don't think we're anywhere close to this point. And for someone to have a take that AA is using this off season to plan his exit (when we have an extremely young core and are opening the season with our highest payroll ever by far) is a total head scratcher.

AA's basically signed our entire core minus Fried to extensions, or have them under control for 2-3+ more years. I expect/hope a Murphy deal by next year. Thats a weird way to plan his exit lol.

i’ll ask again. how would you have addressed SS and LF? who would you have acquired, and for what? you’ve yet to present a single other option.

the Braves interest in Murphy was leaked two weeks before the deal was made. so in that time, and the time before it, we assume he didn’t try and address the obvious holes on the roster, or he did and the cost to acquire was too high. again: what is the more likely scenario to you?

the “how the hell would i know?!” is precisely my point. you don’t know. so yes, it’s far from absurd to assume AA didn’t try and address SS and LF. i’m sure he had a good idea of costs. i’m quite positive he was, ya know, *doing his job* this off-season. crazy assumption, maybe.
I'm quite positive you're not in the front office either. I can't be anymore specific than your guessing game. Nor can you assume you knew the game plan and this was the best scenario. You can try that assume (your favorite word) shyt all you like, but you're doing the same. I've spoken numerous times about what I would target, not who. FOR ME (Once more), I would have stood pat until MY option presented itself...whomever that might be.

Who says that option isnt still out there?

Agreed.

I can’t believe I just read 5 pages of the same people saying the same things over and over again.

When I saw the length of the thread I thought maybe something had happened… but it was just the same bickering over and over again.

I doubt any of you are going to present so much reason that everyone else will have to agree with you.😀

The Angels are signing infielder Brandon Drury to a two-year, $17MM contract, reports Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic (Twitter link). The contract is pending a physical.

Reading can be hard when it doesn’t say what you think. I never once called him a bad GM or copy 2.0. I said people will die at his alter much like they did when Copy was here and making trades. All the comments saying how he gets paid to do this so I guess he knows more than us. They defended him until they could no longer defended him. Which is fine. We are fans. We do stupid things. We attack others who might question someone you like. Sort of like when one of my kids used to hit the other with a toy when they tried to take it. You haven’t matured enough in your fandom to be rationale. It is ok. Like my kids I won’t attack but correct with compassion.

What AA did this offseason has nothing to do what he has or hasn’t done in the past. It still baffles me why people think that is what I am saying. It is like you thinking I shot your dog because I said he crapped on the carpet.

AA, imo, didn’t have a great offseason. I would have preferred if he didn’t want to spend in the deep pool that he just make. A few moves around the edges and keep a lot of the milb depth. That or make these win now moves but push in a little more and over pay. I am sorry it rubs you the wrong way. I will just treat AA like I am talking about Bear to a hick Alabama fan. That I have three dogs, 2 kids and 4 grand kids named bear.

What exactly did Coppy do visibly wrong other than rebuild the Braves in three years and put them in position to win five straight division titles.

Sure being a secret world class cheat that would not admit it hurt pretty bad, but all the moves people panned and insisted were awful had very little negative impact.

Just as five years of bitching about the off-season and in game manageying have yielded five years where the team demonstrated fairly remarkable resilience.

I get it. But as long as Rosario and Ozuna are on the roster, are they just supposed to be benched and never used? Not sure if we can even realistically make a big upgrade in the outfield.

Personally, I think they should keep playing both.

Ozuna's xwoba was serviceable particularly given DH is not actually a very deep position of H's.

Rosario was pretty much hurt the entire year. I think they overreacted to the expected fan backlash of not signing Freddie in that off-season, and Rosario second year was one thing, but I don't think his presence or contract prevented Braves from doing anything this year.

Ozuna's probably did a little but.
