Official official offseason thread

I think the decision to punt LF would be fine had we not also decide to punt SS and DH. That is why some of use are confused why AA upgraded a position we were already good at without at least addressing one of those other positions. It is also why I question the decision to still keep two current starting catchers on our roster.

At least in the case of DH, if not also LF, I hope AA still has something up his sleeve that we haven't thought about. His comment to Schultz about Ozuna at least left some hope that if Ozuna clearly sucks during spring training, there's not a guarantee he'll be on the opening-day roster.

Grissom is projected at 2.5 fWAR. If we feel he can stick at SS, not sure I'd call that punting
 
Murphy extended for 6/73. This, I assume, takes this over the luxury tax. So shouldn't we go ahead and add a little more?

In all seriousness, yeah LF has been rough, for self torture, I looked at our fangraphs LFers with 500+ PA as a LF and their WAR since 1987, Caveat, some guys (like Acuna and Prado) weren't really LF just hit 500 PA according to FG

Weird timing. But that’s thievery if Murphy is the player he has been. $15M for the prime FA seasons is cheap compared to current market.

I seem to remember Bobby Cox lusting after Garret Anderson, and he has to have been one of the worst Braves ever.
 
No Chipper Jones? But seriously, of the ones that actually played LF, not many good players in that bunch.

Core is basically set through 2028. Fans can go ahead and buy those favorite jerseys, because these guys will be here, for better or for worse.
 
DOB says we're still under the threshold. I thought we were within only $4-5 million and that it goes by the AAV of the deal, not the amount they make in a given year?

Garrett Anderson was so completely uninterested in playing baseball for the Braves that it was almost kind of funny to watch. Like, that guy was just over everything.

There was about a ten year period where the Braves would just about put any warm body they could find at the corners.

Because DOB has absolutely no idea how the luxury tax works. Whoever is hand feeding him tidbits doesn’t know either.
