"The Dodgers will join the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Blue Jays in having met with Soto already, although Feinsand also reports that an undisclosed team in addition to that group has already met with Soto as well"

Secretly meeting with Soto is exactly what AA would do. I'm not saying the Braves are at all likely to give someone $600M, but it's at least remotely possible.

How pissed would Acuna be that the braves paid Soto big time while he's on a team friendly deal?

Probably not too mad considering he just had his 2nd major knee surgery and may not have signed for as much as he's going to make now. Turning into Eric Davis is a very real possibility for Acuna.

That's literally why he didn't bet on himself like Soto did...to protect himself against injury.

Good point

look, it is risky business to be all time stolen base king of spring training, so having that contract was a nice safety net.

I do think the Braves have or are gonna meet with him. They have been saving money back and could be looking at Soto as the Acuna replacement long term in the lineup with Acuna already having major knee surgery on both knees. If Acuna were to go down with another major injury then that leaves a huge hole in the lineup that was painfully obvious this year. We have him for 2 more years and 4 if both options are picked up. If he starts getting really injury prone then he will just be here for 2 and Soto will be that long term answer in the lineup. It would be a smart move seeing Acuna’s knee problems.

I am going to assume the undisclosed team is a west coast team. SD or SF are my guess. Maybe Houston could get involved if they are moving on from Bregman.

I would not be surprised to see Soto sign with the Dodgers.

They have an acute need for an OF, and their financials in Ohtani's first year supposedly greatly exceeded their expectations.

Yup. One of my best buddies is a Dodgers fan, so we talk about it a ton and I follow along. But they will likely sign a combination of players like Roki, Teo and Burnes/Snell/Fried this year, so pushing that money forward to Soto isn't even remotely unlikely.

I can see a scenario where they sign Roki, sign Soto for $600+ million, and trade for Crochet.

If this happens, baseball has a problem. The baseball gods should punish them with a biblical injury plaque for the good of the sport if they do this.

I think baseball would love for it to happen. The Dodgers are in 1 of 2 crown jewel markets and have a chance for a dynasty.

The Yankees owner does not spend like his father did, and the Angels are a non-entity.

Maybe Soto goes to the Mets instead, but I think baseball would like a total juggernaut that you either love or hate. Draws eyeballs.

And on Roki- he'll be getting a small contract like Ohtani's with the Angels. All 30 GMs think the Dodgers are going to sign him.

Under this scenario, they could win 120 games.

The Dodgers do in fact have a limit on payroll. Their luxury tax hit in 2024 was 67 million. Signing Soto would put them in a similar range again while also having implications in other areas.

I suspect Soto will not leave NY. Both NY teams are desperate for Soto and have the ability to outspend LAD. Soto is a luxury in LAD, not a need. For the same reasons (and more reasons) Soto will not be coming here. He would be a luxury on a team that is stacked already.

Or, and hear me out, other teams can stop being cheap and do the same damn thing. Teams need to show they want to win - so pony-up.

If the nfl was allowed to spend over-and-beyond like the dodgers, the sport wouldn't be the best. There should be hard top and a hard bottom to mlb spending.
