I should have provided his entire commentary on this (there wasnt much more):
There would also be reason to debate moving Ozzie Albies, the three-time All-Star second baseman whose contract includes a $7 million salary for 2025 and $7 million options for 2026 and ’27. That’s a good value if he remains healthy enough to bid for another 30-homer season. He’s also a strong clubhouse presence. But his arm strength has weakened his defensive value and to get a strong return you sometimes must part ways with something significant.
And it creates a glaring hole at 2b in the process.
If Ozzie and his "declining defense" isn't valuable enough for us to keep around at dirt cheap prices, how exactly is he going to have a huge amount of value to someone else? And what we would even trade him for? A team that has an elite arm (Crochett) or a very good SS (Masyn Winn) really has no need for a guy like Ozzie. I suppose a 3 way trade would work in that scenario, but again, it opens up another hole.
Trading a 2-3 WAR (or better) 2b who is making peanuts certainly doesn't seem to be a strong solution to fixing what few holes we have.
2 years and 29 million isn't a big deal on the surface, but that still seems like a lot for a guy who has barely thrown 120 innings over the last 3 years. And most of that work came in 2023 when he was terrible.
I agree with you, I don't think it makes sense either considering we have nobody ready to plug the hole Albies would leave. It was a bit surprising to see Bowman even mention it.
And not playing the field takes away a large chunk of his value. I don't want to sign up for a Trout situation and I don't want to see him leave for a draft pick. I feel like it's an inevitability the Mets sign him to a mega contract that will turn out very bad for them.

Winters meeting are next week right?
I know Buehler and Evoldi are probably the top FA targets for us with Morton as a backup plan but I think AA is really after Crochet here. Hopefully he can come out of the WM with a LF or SP.
I have a sneaky suspicion they go hard after him as well, but I think he'll go to whomever loses out on Fried and Burnes.
