Offseason Hot Stove 2024-25 Thread

Buxton in a corner outfield with routine days off should be a good bet. He is not super expensive either.. I don't know what his pay escalators are, but I sure if he hit them, we would be happy as fans at that point.

He will play everyday he's healthy here

The sale health got AA feeling good? Buxton seems like a bigger risk than Acuna stealing 2b in a ST game

Buxton ranks pretty high among Low-IQ ballplayers. He may be a Phi Beta Kappa for all I know, but the guy really hasn't developed his tools into skills. He reminded me of Kenny Lofton in CF in that he could run down a lot of balls without getting a great jump. But he never came to grips with the reality of the wall (a line from Philip Roth's The Great American Novel) and spent a lot of time off the field due to some fierce collisions with the fence. Tight-muscled guy who could pull a hamstring getting a drink. No question he is blessed with physical talent.

Moving him out of CF should, in theory, help with that a bit.

We also don't need Buxton to start 160 games. As long as he can fill in until Acuna gets back and be healthy in Sept/Oct, that really all that matters.

Buxton is talented when he’s on the field. He’s only played over 100 games twice in 10 years and barely got that last year at 102 games and is signed for 5 more years. I would have to pass on Buxton bc after the injuries we had last year I’m gun shy to go after one of the most injury prone players in baseball. Now Lopez is another story, I’d take him all day.

Equivalent package from us would probably be Baldwin, Caminiti, Alvarez, and Jhancarlos Lara.

Personally, I am on board the don't trade Baldwin train. And as good as Crochett was last year, that's a pretty rich package for a guy who was a reliever for the previous 5 years.

I think Baldwin plus Alvarez plus a couple arms is very close to what it would have taken to beat the package they took.

That would have stung.

I do agree on Crochet just becoming a SP this past year how he will hold up. I just don’t think AA wants to trade Baldwin and I don’t blame him. Not for a guy that plays every 5 days anyways. If it were for Tucker then I could see it. Tomorrow is the last day at the WM and we have done 0 so far so hopefully AA had some good convos for moving forward.

4/60 million remaining actually. Not terrible in this age. And he's only 30.

We’re inching slowly towards the point where I hope we reset the tax (assuming that means we’ll be more capable to spend in future years).

There’s just not much left that really excites me.
