Post Post-Heyward Discussion Here.

He's pretty much untouchable.

They're both going to be Braves.

Yes, what's so difficult to understand about this? Would you be happy if OKC just let KD walk away without making an actual offer because they assumed something?

There is no sense in comparing basketball to baseball and even less sense in comparing KD to Heyward. If the Braves had Mike Trout they would have never let him leave.

Thats also a stupid comparison since the NBA has a cap and set contracts you can offer, while the MLB has no cap.

Subsitute ANY player, sport doesn't matter......you let your best player walk without offering a contract...it's ****ing stupid and horrible business.

50, Could J-Hey be as good as Druw in center? Probably not. Nobody will ever be.

Could J-Hey be comparable to Griffey Jr? I think Heyward is just as fast as Griffey Jr. and runs better routes to prevent injury.

The damage done by playing Heyward in center is it cuts back a few years on his career.

Missed this one. I don't think he would have been comparable to "early years" Griffey before all the injuries took their toll. He would probably been equivalent to "mid-years" Griffey. I think you're probably right on the reason why Griffey had as many injuries as he did. He was pure athletic ability out there. I think Heyward would have been an above average, but not elite CF.

Which do you think is more valuable? Elite right fielder or same hitter above average but not elite CF? Not a trick question. Just curious about how you would evaluate something like that.

Well sometimes your best player isn't the type that you go all out for to keep. Again, if Trout or Standon are your best players you do. I don't think you do that for Heyward since he hasn't proven he can hit consistently at the major league level like an elite player should.

Making an offer is "going all in"??

Why is it insulting to a fan? How is it more insulting than not making an offer?

The player can't accept what's not offered to him. It's insulting to EVERYONE that the player wasn't even worth the time of writing up an offer.

Because the act of making an offer is strictly to save face and not with the real intention of signing the player. I prefer the route of honesty.

The route of honesty was "we assume he didn't want to sign here"

And the player said "I wanted tot sign there."

And a chop country poster said "He wanted $325M"

If you think they didnt offer a contract or constitute talks, well lets just say you are wrong.

One more thing to agitate the Heyward loyalists:

From Bowman:
Once Markakis completed his physical on Friday morning, he came to Turner Field to sign his four-year, $44 million contract and briefly introduce himself to his new environment. As he spoke to reporters, he was positioned in front of a locker in which hung his new No. 22 jersey.
While some Braves fans might not like the fact that Heyward's replacement is getting his jersey number, Markakis did not have the option to continue wearing 21, the number he fashioned throughout his days in Baltimore. That number has been retired in Atlanta to honor Hall of Fame pitcher Warren Spahn.
"I wish [I could have No. 21], but you can't take it away from that man," Markakis said.

(I personally could, since Spahn never wore it in Atlanta, but I'm cool with this.)
