Post Post-Heyward Discussion Here.

You should know who everyone else thinks is your franchise player when you're going to play on a national telecast on ESPN and they say "Ryan Howard and the Phils clash with the Braves lead by Jason Heyward".

Even the marketers know Heyward's value to the team over Freeman.

Watch Nick Markakis inhabit a #22 jersey as the Braves visit Bryce Harper, his hair, and the rest of the Nationals.

So assuming Heywood has the exact same year in 2015 as he did in 2014 what would Shelby Miller have to do make the trade a positive? I don't want to go into WAR because it uses FIP instead of ERA and defense shouldn't be included in WAR either in my opinion. So using Heyward ' s 2014 as a baseline what does Miller need to put up, 200 innings 3.00 ERA?

Geez, Heyward had a pretty sorry year with the bat last year. I would think, you know, 170 innings, about a 3.90 ERA, 6.5K/9 or so...wouldn't take much. 200 and 3.00 is about 25 HRs and 90 RBI, or however many WARs that equals.

Well then I don't understand why people hate the trade.

Yeah because defense doesn't matter at all

After reading the statistical arguments the past few days, I think maybe teams should just play all of games as exhibitions. Playoff seedings can be determined by adding up the total pre season WAR projections for each team. The sabermetric crowd will be satisfied with the predictable results.

So if he never develops into that player would you say the Braves did what was "best for buisness"?

I'm torn. I love the guy, but his hitting numbers have really never approached what we'd all hoped for. It wouldn't surprise me if he figured it out and blew up one day. If he settles into .270/.330/.440, though, I'm glad we didn't pay him $200m.

One thing I am pretty sure of, though, is Shelby Miller will be a TOR guy. Not sure if he's a one or a two. And I liked what little I saw of Jenkins.

Taking emotion out of it, I think we did.

I don't see why not.

Because it is poorly quantified in the eyes of many at this time. Unless you think Gerardo Parra should make $30m/yr.

Markakis and Heyward are both gold glovers. They must be equal on defense. We should just look at that, right? Para also doesn't have a history of being an excellent defender. Most people know to look at multiple years since a defensive sample size for one year is small.

Gov for Governor? Best post in any thread this year.

Don't start with me, boy. Your mama's calling you. Go on home for supper.

What gets me is, not one person who has been in support of dealing Heyward has been able to offer a direction to go in next off-season when we need more OFers. Especially if we trade Upton. Who out there will sign for what amount of money, and why will that be a better gamble than Heyward?
