Post-Season Thread

Fine on 163. But who cares about MNF? It’s not relevant anymore to people who are going to watch baseball in the first place.
If you don’t think your sport is relevant enough that a prime time playoff game can’t compete with a a random regular season football game, then what’s the point.

NFL ratings are the one sport that still does monster ratings. The networks that have invested millions of dollars on tv rights arent gonna wanna compete with NFL.

That's not MLB's call.

ESPN did have tje wild card games and MNF. But since MNF was doing doubleheaders they didn't wanna run a wild card game with teams that barely have winning records against MNF.

The NBA on TNT did very good ratings. But since NFL started doing Thursday Night games, Warner-Diacovery waited until after December to go back to Thursday nights they were running Tuesday nights instead.

Nobody wants to compete directly with NFL games because the NFL ratings dwarf everything else.

But the people who don’t care about baseball aren’t going to watch a playoff game anyway. The casual baseball fan who might prefer the NFL would still likely choose to tune into a MLB playoff game. Talking about the games that are not on ESPN,

MNF just isn’t that big a deal anymore, especially since most of the matchups are ass.

I mean most people nowadays who are into sports can tune into both. Yesterday on YouTube TV, I had two college games and the two mlb games rolling at once. But MLB should not be tap dancing around the NFL as it makes its playoff schedule. They need to do what makes the most sense from a competitive standpoint which shouldn’t include screwing over half of the teams with first round byes. If the regular season is going to be 162 games, give the teams that perform best the playoff advantage.

Really wish Hulu+ has multiview

It’s like MLB still thinks MNF is an “event” instead of one of a dozen opportunities to watch NFL each week. Gotta have faith in your product and go head-to-head sometimes.

Mmm.

Neilsen ratings data say otherwise in terms of people that would rather tune in to playoff baseball over NFL. Data shows once it gets to the LCS, then slightly higher % will tune in to MLB but even then, the NFL gets double sometimes triple ratings of NBA and MLB. This is also the same reason we have a federal law believe it or not that prohibits NFL from running domestic games on Fridays and Saturdays, and to skirt this NFL has run internatjonal games on Fridays. Because the law protects high school football and college football. The only time NFL is alloaed to run Saturdays is once the College regular season has completed. Then they run Thurs Sat and Sun.

Especially with the highly coveted 18-49 demo.

Everyone tap dances around the NFL's scheduling. NBA and MLB both.

Again, on principle you and I agree MLB and NBA shouldn't worry scheduling around NFL, but the networks that have invested billions on TV rights for these leagues, know the NFL is goliath vs. David when it comes to airing head to head, hence why if you notice, MLB will sometimes delay LCS starting time of games until after the 4pm NFL games are completed on the national window.

Meant to quote @CyYoung31 not you

Man. I love this video. But it hurts my heart when they zoom in on Fried.

Even though Max left he actually stood up for ATL fanbase unlike Dansby. The NY media asked him how different it is performing to fan expectations in NY vs. ATL and he straight up said ATL fans have high expectations because they're just as passionate about the Braves, and he doesn't find it any different than performing for NY. If anything it's helped him.

Contrast that to Dansby's comments.

And Dansby is from ATL too.

I think it’s hilarious a NYY beat writer would ask that, as if the Braves haven’t been just as successful as the Yankees over the past 20 years.

Guess I have to be a dodger$ fan too now. Love for the faillies fans to lose two post season games and eagles home game in a three day span.

New Yorkers, even journalists, are oblivious to the world outside of the five boroughs. It’s sad and true

I guess I'm the only one who never watches sports live - havent in 20 years. The magic of DVR's. I can watch a football or baseball game in an hour. If I time it right I can watch every sporting event I want to, one after another, even if they are playing at the same time.

I do that too. I don’t start watching games until at least an hour in so I can fast forward commercials
