REAL FOOTBALL Thread

So Brooks apparently quit on SF when he was placed in a rotational role. Took his cleats off and plopped down on the bench...

send him to Atlanta. Won't send you anything back, but he has to be an improvement over anything Atlanta has in it's front 6. Which that's how bad their LBs are is they don't even do a front 7 typically.

Might as well send us all your mid round draft picks. It's not like your gm can do anything g with those.

All the more reason for a new head coach. The offense has been bad since Harbaugh and Roman took over. I realize after Harbaugh leaves after this season that means Fangio will follow and I am fine with that. We need a legit offensive minded head coach. The quarterback guru that Harbaugh is has seen Kaepernick make zero progress.

In 1998 the Sacramento Kings went from one of the worst franchises in sports to playoff contenders every year. It even took a conspiracy by the refs to keep them from beating the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals one year. The team was talented but never able to take that final step and win a championship. Everyone always pointed to the defense. The coach Rick Adelman was an offensive minded coach so the offense was top 5 every year while the defense was suspect a lot of the time. Fans were constantly complaining that if we could just get a coach who taught defense in there, we'd win a championship. So the owners canned Adelman for a defensive minded coach.

10 years and 6 coaches later, the Kings are finally starting to win some games again.

Hard to argue...wouldn't say its all his fault but he just doesn't look comfortable with multiple options. Need to go back to running the ball more and less 3WR routes. Go back to dual TE.

HAHAHAHAHHA. I wish I could find the post earlier in the thread when you said something like he's never had options like this before, and I countered with as a 1 read and react QB extra options could be bad, and you thought that was impossible. Good times.

BTW how absurd is parity in the NFL.

Some teams truly suck (Raiders, Jaguars, Titans) but aside from that, we witnessed yesterday a few things.

Redskins were less than 3 weeks off of beating the Cowboys, hung tough vs the Vikings, had a bye, then proceeded to get raped by the Bucs. The Lions, the offensive juggernaut, blah blah blah got absolutely molestered by the Cardinals who're starting no one at QB. Panthers started off the season pretty well including beating the Panthers and Bears and tying with the Bengals, then they've proceeded to just lose ugly games. They have potentailly 5 winnable games coming off the bye so things could get interesting, but you can't think that after losing to Atlanta and New Orleans at home, they'll go to the domes and beat them.

Both of the South divisions seem to be trying to give it away. Falcons are 4-0 vs the South and 0-6 vs all other divisions. Falcons remaining schedule is bleak though. @GB should be a murderfest, Arizona in the dome could be interesting, Falcons need to plan well for that game as they shouldn't need more than 21 to win it, but Arizona's DL drank the Falcons' milkshake last year, so I assume it would happen again and the Falcons score no more than 10. They go to the Superdome which should be a good game, they host Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Carolina, should get 2 wins from that group. Question is can the rest of the NFC south stink enough so 7-9 or 8-8 is nough to get Atlanta into the playoffs? I think not,

I'm rooting for the Falcons because I'd love to play you guys in the first round. It makes for a spirited debate on the board!

Chris Borland's 19.8% run stop percentage leads all ILBs who have played 100+ run snaps. Next closest is Roland McClain at 13.2% #49ers

Are we looking at the next Zach Thomas?

That doesn't mean he can't develop that skill. He is still young and works incredibly hard.

Sorry to break this to you thethe but QBs pretty much never make a drastic shift in their style and it's successful. How long has Mike Vick been a running QB? It wasn't until Randall Cunningham had no legs on him that he became a passer only. Only QB who made a fairly drastic and successful shift was McNabb, but McNabb had laid the groundwork and done all that before turning 26, Kaepernick is 27. Assume a similar career arc for Kaepernick as McNabb had, he has about 8 years left in the NFL, only about 5 or 6 at a high level of production. And it's really not fair to assume a similar career arc, cause McNabb was a way better QB than Kaepernick, and Kaepernicks rush per game is increasing as he stays in the NFL longer while McNabb generally trended downward. I thought after his first season Kaepernick may have been able to be something, but he's trended down every year, that's not a good sign. He could still turn it around, but he better do it fast or he'll soon find his way to the Land of Misfit Running Quarterbacks.

49ers don't have designed runs for Kap anymore until the playoffs start. Majority of his rushing is from scrambling. Guys like Wilson still have designed run plays called for them.

I just think the defense knows there just aren't any guys that can take the top off the defense so they arne't playing back at all. We have three receivers that do the same thing and thats not good for a QB.

I was about to post the same thing. I'd be fine with ATL blowing the rest of the year and getting a high pick, but if they are gonna hand the division over on a silver platter, then I can live with it.

Carolina has OL and Defense problems. Those aren't going to fix themselves.

Can you ever not go overboard?
