REAL FOOTBALL Thread

Easy to do, but we keep failing to do it.

I guess what I mean by "easy" isn't that it's easy. Obviously we suck at it.

What I mean is that all the positions that absolutely require 1st round picks to fill (QB, CB, LT) we have covered. We don't need to use our first rounders going forward to fill those spots. Pass rushers tend to be found all over the draft and usually it's not something fixed by just getting one player.

The Falcons can fix their pass rush by getting lucky with a guy like Shane Ray with their first rounder, using free agency to bolster their linebacker group (which is God awful. Literally so atrocious it's embarassing), hope and pray Spoon stays healthy, and hope guys like Massaquoi improve.

I wouldn't say all that happening is likely, but it's very foreseeable to see that happen.

The Falcons still have a lot of other holes to fill. I'm not entirely sold on Stone and Schraeder on the offensive line. Their safeties have some potential but they make a ton of mistakes. Tight end is a massive black hole since Toilolo doesn't block well and is an absolute zero in the passing game. The running back rotation is pretty below average as well.

But all of those things are very fixable. With two solid drafts and some solid FA signings the Falcons could be back to being a contender. That's why their HC job is so appealing.

Indications are that TD wanted pass rushers for the passed two years and Nolan and Smith have wanted basically the same unit to return. That is just odd...

Might be why TD is staying... For now.

Smitty wanted players to help stop the run in order to create 3rd and longs so they could blitz.

Problem I have with that strategy is for that to work you need DT's like John Henderson and Marcus Stroud (like Mike Smith had in Jax). Soliai is nice, but he's not enough.

Surprised there's not more playoff discussion going on. Carolina defense played out of its mind and the Steelers look like a way different team without Bell.

Baltimore is without Pitta, Jimmy Smith (best cover CB), and both starting T's.

But i do agree if Bell played, its a different game.

Just from what I watched, it seemed like Catolina got away with some full fledged muggings in the secondary, and Newton got like an hour to recover from some big hits.

They played like crap and still won, I guess ARZ was just the walking wounded. If I'm Bruce Arians, I'm training Logan Thomas to play TE.

He needs to find (and train) someone to play QB, they sure as heck don't have anyone right now. I know Palmer's on IR and their 2nd string one was out too, but they'd better figure out how to train a decent backup and stash him somewhere for next time around, assuming they get back to the playoffs any time soon. Just imagine how any and all conversations about the best WRs in the game, maybe in history would begin with Larry Fitzgerald, if the poor guy EVER had a decent QB? How long did Warner play out there? That's the only time he had a good QB.

On and you're right about the zebras, at least a couple of them must have had money on the Panthers last night. The officiating was pathetic.

Different game perhaps, but the Steelers defense allowed 30 points to that awful Ravens offense.

Real talk. Andy Dalton is dirty sewer water trash as far as quarterbacks go. Got a fat contract to never win in the playoffs.

Sure it hurts having AJ Green out, but that's not why Dalton is trash. He's managed to lose all these playoff games in the past with him in the lineup.
