Easy to do, but we keep failing to do it.
I guess what I mean by "easy" isn't that it's easy. Obviously we suck at it.
What I mean is that all the positions that absolutely require 1st round picks to fill (QB, CB, LT) we have covered. We don't need to use our first rounders going forward to fill those spots. Pass rushers tend to be found all over the draft and usually it's not something fixed by just getting one player.
The Falcons can fix their pass rush by getting lucky with a guy like Shane Ray with their first rounder, using free agency to bolster their linebacker group (which is God awful. Literally so atrocious it's embarassing), hope and pray Spoon stays healthy, and hope guys like Massaquoi improve.
I wouldn't say all that happening is likely, but it's very foreseeable to see that happen.
The Falcons still have a lot of other holes to fill. I'm not entirely sold on Stone and Schraeder on the offensive line. Their safeties have some potential but they make a ton of mistakes. Tight end is a massive black hole since Toilolo doesn't block well and is an absolute zero in the passing game. The running back rotation is pretty below average as well.
But all of those things are very fixable. With two solid drafts and some solid FA signings the Falcons could be back to being a contender. That's why their HC job is so appealing.
