REAL FOOTBALL Thread

this basically means "definitely" to me.

Pro-tip...

If you are about to start a rookie who has never played, then there is a great chance it's not.

Great line nonetheless, but would anyone be surprised if some other team has a line grade out the best in the NFL this year? These things are always so volatile.

He's not starting at the moment. Has to beat a vet out.

And Martin started last year. All-Pro.

there's obviously a pretty small chance, just in general, that it's the "best line of all-time." how do you even properly compare that? i don't think you can. i was just messing with heyward with that comment, and was excited yesterday.

You're first statement was "There were a lot of teams that weren't interested in him for whatever reason; even after it became clear he wasn't at least directly involved."

The quote you posted didn't mention anything about other teams not being interested or that those were the only teams that showed some interest. And C2C's quote would prove otherwise.

The quote I posted was from the day before Collins was signed. You can read into it however you would like to read it. Or not believe it if you are so inclined. Here it is again:

"According to multiple NFL sources, LSU offensive lineman La'el Collins will receive interest from seven teams....Now, those seven teams that have expressed interest, aside from Buffalo and Miami ... you have Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans. Those five in addition to the initial two, again, Miami and Buffalo.

First off, I hope they find the monster who killed this lady and her baby. That's the tragic thing out of this by far. Should be a double murder charge, if you ask me.

As far as La'el Collins goes, he's answered the questions of the police and if, and only if, nothing else comes out against him, I'm delighted he's a Dallas Cowboy. Saw a lot of LSU games and he is a top notch player. Not sure how much time he'll get this season, but likely is a long term replacement for Doug Free at RT. By far, the best O-Line for the Cowboys since the Super Bowl days of the 1990s.

I think he probably competes for the LG spot (and possibly wins it) until Free moves on and then he slides over to RT (if he can handle it).

Would have liked to have seen ATL take a serious run at him, but I am not sure he is the type of OL that Shanny likes for the ZBS. We need all the talent on the OL we can get.

Doesn't seem to fit what the Shanny's look for in an OL after having those guys run the Skins for 4 years. If you are that big, you better be able to move like Trent Williams to play for Shanny.

its going to be a great line. I have zero doubt about it.

I'm just reacting more to that statement. Zach Martin is special for a reason. If you could draft him every year then he would be the first pick. I don't think it's fair to project Collins to be that good or even close to it. And you said yourself that you think he has a good chance of being the starter week one. It's just a decent stretch to call something all time great when that is a situation you might have. Plus, Doug Free isn't exactly the stand up model for consistency.

And that quote is obviously incorrect, as it doesn't even include the team that signed him. Every single thing I've read, besides that, said 25+ teams.

Whatever makes you feel better, champ.

footballoutsiders has the Cowboys line at number 1 in run blocking, just ahead of NO. They have them 16th in pass protection.

profootballfocus has them 2nd in run blocking, behind Philly; and 2nd in pass blocking.

Frederick, Smith, and Martin graded out very well. Parnell was 4th. Free was 5th, and Leary was 6th. (on the team)

No doubt. I never considered us a good bet, but it was wishful thinking.

Our OL is probably the biggest sore spot on the roster right now. If Matthews improves, that goes a LONG way to helping the rest.

This would have been VERY interesting to me:

Scott Wright @DraftCountdown

Imagine if La'el Collins was a completely unrestricted free agent. We'd find out the true value of a mid-1st Rounder on the open market.

That's pretty interesting. Most sources would have been unquestionably voted in Sherff's direction.

Mayock had Scherff as the best OL in the draft, but put Scherff inside and kept Collins outside for some reason.

Collins 6-4, 305, 33 1/4 arm length. 5.12 40 yard dash, 21 reps.

Scherff 6.5 319, 33 3/8 arm length, 5.05 40 yard dash, 23 reps.

I was never able to catch why Mayock said Scherff would move inside, but not Collins. Most of the other analysts that I read believed Scherff would stay outside, which is what the Skins plan for him is. Scherff is bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic than Collins so I don't see his justification for that opinion. I read some talk about arm length, but both of them are virtually identical in that.

If Scherff was an interior lineman and Collins was a tackle, there would be no justification for ranking Scherff over Collins overall.

Not gonna lie, I just watched Tevin Coleman's highlight tape, and its hard not to get excited about that guy with Kyle Shanahan calling the plays. DAMN.

Yeah, Kyle is like his Dad, he can make a running game out of scratch. I wonder how they tailor the system to Ryan, who isn't as mobile as guys they prefer. I'm sure Shanny will do fine there.

Ryan is as mobile as Cutler. Shanahan got plenty out of Cutler.

I agree, other than Gurley he was my pick of the litter. I wish the Cowboys had gotten him, but that's the way it goes. The Falcons did very well for themselves in the draft though.
