Messy game - browns defense is worlds better than cowboys. Great test for purdy against this team with some rain.

Needed to see purdy against some adversity.

Looking forward to se what he has after his first big mistake this year.

Arthur Smith with a master class in bad coaching. Between clock management, the bizarre two pt conversion call, and sticking with the clown that is Ridder, Smith's seat needs to be heating up.

Really bad coaching. I want Smith to get a longer leash (that extends past Ridder), but he deserves some criticism for that.

I'm kind of done with Smith but I agree I wish he would get another QB. I don't really see how it can happen without a long time spent on him.

That leash would have to be insanely long. Smith made a career threatening blunder in sticking with Mariota and not getting a better look at Ridder. Had they seen Ridder over the course of 10-12 games they would have known he's not the guy. That would have let them at least try to get a better QB last offseason.

Now, if they move on from Ridder they'll have to target a new QB. If they get lucky they'll find a replacement via trade or FA. If they have to draft a QB and break him in, you're probably talking about having bad QB play until 2025. I don't see Blank waiting through a couple years of struggles when Smith hasn't exactly wowed anyone.

I'm done with Smith too. His open disdain for fans turned me off on him for a while. Fans have questioned his use of Pitts so reporters have asked him and he just responds about how they're trying to win games not fantasy football. It's incredibly dismissive of the fans.

With that kind of ego he'd have to be an incredible head coach and he's not. His heralded offensive genius hasn't translated here and in year 3 he's still making rookie mistakes.

He's exactly what he is, a spoiled billionaires son playing at being a football coach.

I mean I won't write Smith off because of who his dad is. But I'm getting to the point at what point do you have to can him?

Let's say year 1 is a bit of a wash because it was the end of what should have been the championship era. Let's say year 2 was a wash because we were in cap hell. But should year 3 be considered a wash when we've had 3 top 10 picks in a row? IMO it shouldn't. We should be taking big steps forward by now.

Year 4 has to be the last year. If we're not a contender, then start over. It's the NFL you can rebuild pretty damned quickly (look at the Lions) with good front office moves and the right coach.
