Red Sox To Acquire Drew Pomeranz From Padres

What's interesting to me is that I haven't seen anyone who's been so critical of the brass for loading up on young, high-end arms say much this evening.

I haven't seen people critical of loading up on high impact arms at all. I have seen people critical of us not mixing in hitting prospects to go along with them. And if anything this trade makes that critique more accurate, as the Red Sox refused to trade their top bats but were happy to trade their top pitching prospect who was only slightly less valuable.

Outside of us getting Swanson, top hitting prospects haven't really been getting moved lately. We may see some prospects with huge question marks like Gallo get moved, but it's been extremely rare.

I really didn't have any major issues with our last draft (though I would have preferred Groome or Lewis over Anderson), we got good value for the most part. But the bats have to come from somewhere.

I would say Touki has similar upside, but that's about where the comparison ends.

Not really, they both have struggled... Espinosa has all the talent in the world, but let's be real... he hasn't really shown it consistently in the minors much if anymore than Touki

If the only thing you are looking at is ERA sure, but Espinoza has been much better everywhere else. K rate, BB rate, etc. Not really a good comparison.

Except he has been much more hittable. .219 vs .269.

My guess is that if you compare the last 40 innings for each (1/2 of season to date) that the peripherals would be similar.

That's all for me on making this case though.

Probably close there since Touki turned the corner a bit starting in June, but Touki has still been walking guys at a decent clip even the last couple months. That's still extremely SSS though. No denying Touki has upside as high as anyone, but his peripherals have not been as strong as Espinoza this year overall.

Sure, but Espinosa is much more polished with better command of pitches, despite being younger with a year less of experience

This is reflective in his K and BB rates compared to Touki

The market is what is. And a pitcher as good as JT with the team control he has is ultra valuable already.

If the Braves could have gotten 2 top 7 prospects (position prospects)... the deal would have been done already.

Teheran has a ton of valuable but people's expectations are absurd... I'd be thrilled if we could get a top 20 + a top 50 for him

Touki has significantly turned the corner over the last handful of starts with his control... Espinosa has gone the other way.

Actually its a great comparison in my eyes, but I know the way you operate is that your opinion is well known "fact"

Yeah, I see both being huge busts due to their lack of contact skills. Only top Texas prospect I really like is Ortiz.

I agree with you on Gallo but Brinson I like and he's looked better of late after his bad start. Plus his defense in CF helps too.

That said, if I am Texas I am selling high on Gallo at the deadline before calling him back up and having his value go down. I see too many signs of bust with him, great power, but I don't see him making enough contact long term.

If we plan to compete in the next two years we need to hold on to Julio. If we do I see a 1990-esque winter shopping spree. We are not going to have a losing record first year at Suntrust.

Having a rough day today man? You seem a little sensitive in your responses to people today. I definitely don't think I have any monopoly on facts or the truth, we are all entitled to our opinions. I may not agree with stuff you post at times, but I'd never try and shut anyone down.
