Red Sox To Acquire Drew Pomeranz From Padres

This is as comical as most of the gripes about Fredi. The fact that any of us assume Managers (interim or not) are less capable of thinking more steps ahead than we do is a joke. Seriously.

What's your resume look like? Really not trying to pick on you Matt, just making a point in general. Snitker has been in the Braves' organization for 40 years. Does anybody here really expect to be taken seriously when they say they know better than people with resumes like his? I completely understand disagreeing with decisions (lineup/pen makeup/etc.) that they make because someone has a different opinion. I disagreed with his call there just as 50 did, yet continue to be called a blind follower and yes man. That's OK. I'm smart enough to know that I haven't been in those situations and he has - for a LONG time.

We all have opinions, and we also know what those make us at times. I'm willing to bet that EVERY organization in MLB would weight Snit's experience much heavier than our random message board postings. If push came to shove and the Braves felt they could trust me to make decisions instead of Snitker, I'd question their sanity.

This argument is so tired and lazy. And a lot of people make it.

How dare us peasants ever question anything because we're not GMs or Mnagers... therefore they surely know what we don't.

That line of thinking implies that they can't make mistakes.. but since they do all the time, it's absolutely fair to question them as much as we want. Otherwise what's the point of being here?

I think everyone knows that we will in deed trade Julio, but we're only doing it for the right package. I love the fact that people seem to be frustrated by this. it means Coppy is not letting people bullying him around. Stand your ground Coppy. We have the offseason to open up the bidding to every team.

I agree... if we can get a premium prospect... we need to pull the trigger. Teheran is very valuable... but his value is completely wasted with us

Agreed, but only if the premium prospect is a hitter, preferably one that projects to have a lot of power. Teheran is pretty much our only shot at getting near-ready bats. I wouldn't give Julio up for a package based around pitching prospects, because there's a very good chance that even if the prospect in question hits you're just trading for a younger version of the same guy. In other words, just kicking the can a little farther down the road and not really addressing needs.

Ok, but I don't find them similar. Julio strikes out 7.9/9, Radke 5.4/9. Julio gives up 7.8/9 hits, Radke 9.7/9. If you're saying they both have good-to-great control and gave/give up dingers, okay...but dingers happen to a lot of guys who pound the zone. I thought of Radke as a limited guy who made the most of meager tools with pinpoint accuracy and Teheran as...well, a stud with a touch of gopheritis.

So I guess I found your comparison curious and it didn't work for me.

The difference in their statistical profile is due to Teheran's "better stuff." That's my only point here. Teheran seems to be around the plate a lot more often this year and he's not a "blow 'em away" guy with a 95+ fastball. That means he's going to give up some HRs. As long as there aren't men on base, I don't mind.

At some point Folty has to learn to negotiate the lineup 3+ times and needs to learn how to not crumble mentally when the ump blows a strike call. He just pitched 7 scoreless innings against the Cubs. He is a 24 year old grown man. I don't think he needs to be babied anymore. He needs to be able to throw 100+ pitches. He needs to learn how to become the TOR starter he has the potential to become.

I bet you $1 Verlander never pissed and moaned like that over a blown strike call and let the game unravel.

Putting him through those types of tests when his pitch count is still under 100 during a 100-loss season is exactly the right thing to do. It was evident he lost his composure out there, and he needs to learn how to get it back. If he doesn't learn those things then it doesn't really matter if the Braves "saved his arm" for the future. He will just be another guy with good stuff that never quite figured out the mental side of pitching.

I'll politely disagree. In an earlier era when guys like Ferguson Jenkins were throwing 25 complete games, I think your point would be completely valid, but that's not how the game is played today. Foltynewicz has to keep his composure, but this wasn't the third or fourth inning. I grew up watching the game in the 1960s and pitching staff roles weren't as tightly defined as they are now. Foltynewicz had done his job. He'd put the team in a position to win with a splendid 7 innings. Granted, games this year mean diddly-squat, but what lessons does Foltynewicz come out of the game with? Trust the manager? No. Trust the bullpen? No. He may have to grow up on the mound a bit, but I don't think he gains much by what happened Saturday night.

I am not worried about you questioning something I say. That is basically what we are here for.

But what does my resume have to do with Snit doing a good job? I am not applying to be a manager. But if I don't get a report out or I don't validate my database correctly before end of month, then it will be noticed by a lot of people who don't know how to do my job. They will then call me out and I will have to answer to them. That is no different here.

And when he does things like bringing in a closer, who had thrown 30 pitches two nights before and had worked 4 days out of the last 7, when the team is up by 4 runs.. is something that maybe us "non experts" should call him out on.. or not having guys ready when a starter, who is coming off a DL stint for bone spurs less than a month ago, is close to the 100 pitch mark is something that should be questioned.. So I am making my opinion of him based off results that I think are directly a result of his decision. Just like the line of business at my work will view me when I finish my validation each month.

If anyone thinks our asking price for Julio might be too high, reportedly the A's asked for Espinoza for Rich Hill straight up.

I think if we sit tight, teams will survey the options available after having some of these preliminary discussions and come circling back for JT once they weigh it all out.

LMAO. What a HORRIBLE trade that would be. We could get Altuve from Houston with those stupid demands.

Well, they aren't going to start of the demands with some scrub.

This is exactly the point that many others have tried to make time, and time, and time, and time again - WE have absolutely no clue what Snit's directives have been, so it's just a little bit tough for some of us to label people with that much experience "idiots". Again, I completely understand having a differing opinion of how certain situations have been handled - I agreed with 50 that I personally would've handled Folty differently Saturday night. I'm not blindly defending Snit here. The thing that the "Anti-Johns" can't get through their heads is that it's not always the smartest thing to label someone an idiot until we've been given all the facts.

I personally don't have any inside knowledge that tells me that "the plan" for Folty is to put him into as many situations like that as possible so he'll learn on his own - my guess is that no one else does either. As for "overusing" Vizcaino, it's pretty obvious that they're shopping him. Has anyone been in meetings between JS/Hart/Coppy and Snit? For all we know, Snit's been instructed to "show him off" whenever possible to try to increase his market.

The point is, I feel quite comfortable saying that Snit's been in these situations many more times than anyone here ever has - I think it's absolutely understandable to question any Manager's in-game moves, lineups, etc., but to call him an "idiot" when we don't have any idea whether that decision was made for him just makes it look like someone thinks they're smarter than everyone in the room. I dare say there aren't many internet message board posters that fit that bill.

Opinions are great - and I think there are quite a few of them here that lead to great discussions, whether I agree with them or not. We just all need a little reminder every once-in-awhile that at the end of the day we're still just fans, and that if we were as smart as we think we are we'd probably have different jobs.

I am sure there are directives coming in from the FO to continue to play X player or Z pitcher. But I just don't see any evidences ever to the FO making pitching decisions within a game. The Viz situation I mentioned above is more a classic case of getting him back up on the horse after a rough outing two nights before. I am ok with that.. but only if he hadn't been used multiple times prior to that.. then great. A managers job is to win ball games AND get his team through 162 games.

My personal opinion of Snit is he loves to win games but may not be very good at getting his players through 162 games. could I do it.. probably not. But could I work the drive through at taco bell and not forget someones fire sauce at some point... probably not.. but I will call that guy and idiot when he forgets my damn fire sauce.

Adults still eat at Taco Bell?
