Rosenthal: Fredi will be fired, possibly by end of the road trip

I don't get the Fire fredi mantra. Our roster is anemic; it's the worst in the history of the franchise. The rotation is young and inexperienced. There's zero pop in the lineup. We trot out AAAA players at 2b and 3b every day. There are now 3 viable major league hitters in the lineup, and a 4th in Aybar who has faced the dreaded Atlanta curse. Trade him and he will figure out to hit again. Fredi can't make chicken salad from chicken _ _ _ _. Wasn't long ago Fredi was at the helm of a winning team. You need players to win. Fredi hasn't been given players in 2 years.

Because he was a terrible manager even when he had really good rosters.

Why would anyone give anything for Aybar now? He cannot hit nor field well at short and makes 8 million too (6 million owed by Atlanta). We had a shot to trade him this off-season and this spring and blew it, I said then we'd probably regret it because he is in decline. It isn't a curse, we just failed to see the signs of a player clearly in decline. Now we could still trade him, just not for anything of value and will have to pay at least part of his contract to do so (likely most of it). The only other option being trade him with someone good.

In one respect, not many, probably not one, managers in MLB can win with this roster as it is put together. However, I don't think anyone in their wildest dreams (or nightmare to be more accurate) anticipated the team to be this bad. Not all of it is Gonzalez's fault, however, some things fall on his responsibility. The writing is on the wall. At some point, Fredi is gone. He will not be manager in 2017, to state the obvious. It's just a matter of when the front office decides it's time to make the decision to let him go and do you go with Pendleton or Perez on an interim basis. Then, go into the offseason and find that man, be it Bud Black or someone else, who will take over as manager when SunTrust Park opens.

Yeah, don't see how an interim manager is going to make any lasting impact. Just another morale problem. It's not to defend Fredi, but nobody could do anything with this team and this situation.

The question is whether we've already made up our minds or not about Fredi moving forward. If the front office has already decided that he's going to be fired at some point then there's no sense in keeping him right now. We're not doing anyone any favors by stringing Fredi along.

If he's fired it wont be because of the first month of the season. It will be because of his full tenure here and the fact that he's still making the same mistake he was making when first took over the Marlins.

People defending Fredi argue how no other manager could have done anything with this roster either. This is true but it doesn't get to the heart of the matter.

The question isn't what has Fredi done this year to deserve to be fired. The question is what has Fredi done this year to deserve to be kept?

You don't fire Fredi because the team was bad this year. You fire Fredi because he's not done a strong job in his tenure and he's done nothing this year to deserve being kept on.

The real issue has been and continues to be this front office's judgment. He should have been out the door with Frank Wren, pure and simple. He should not have been allowed to start this season.

I can understand not wanting your new manager to come in and face plant his first year. Not an ideal situation. Keeping Fredi allows you to scapegoat him and start fresh next season with a new manager, an improved roster, and a new park.

At the very least, I would have used the year, and even last year, to see what we had in an Eddie Perez, Terry Pendleton, etc. Fredi is awful, and he has no business managing this team, even if they are crappy. You need a whole lot more improvement beyond the studs in the minors coming up to actually get enough people excited. Time to stop looking for scapegoats and own up to the mistakes.

I can see the benefit of having a couple years of those guys to see if they have what it takes. I think if it wasn't for Bobby Cox in his corner, Fredi would have been fired along with Wren. Cox still loves Fredi. But it's getting more and more apparent that their friendship is blinding Bobby to Fredi faults.

Talks about as an option to be manager. Also about how scouts feel Teheran could be traded or made available before the deadline this year. Talked to the Giants and Cubs this offseason but his value could be much higher considering a decent start to the season.

I think pulling Teheran after 5 is an indication that they want to keep him healthy for a possible trade.

They could be looking to move around draft time, to help with their decision on direction in draft.

Nothing at the major league level should impact draft decisions. Just get the best combination of players possible in the draft - everything else will sort itself out. All baseball is, is the accumulation of assets; get too many of one kind and you can flip them for something else.

no doubt.. but say you get two high upside bats.. does that not make it a bit easier to take Groome at #3.. you may still take him.. but it makes you feel a lot better about it.

I still say wait till closer to deadline.. teams will be more desperate by then and I think if Flowers can continue to work with JT, he will have more value.
