Rubber game vs Phillies

So many jokes waiting to be made.

Only thing that will keep us from 90 wins is if the pen gets Reitsma/Kolb level bad. The record we have with Luke Jackson as our closer is unfathomable.

The schedule sets up really well for next weekend at Washington. They have a four-game series vs Philly before then, and the Phillies face Scherzer and Strasburg on Wednesday and Thursday. So we’ll miss both of them in DC next weekend.

Why would we want to miss Strasburg? We club him like a baby seal.

Depends. I know for one the projection systems have undersold Acuna.

I remember at the start of the season the projection systems had us at about .500 and I thought that was low due to underrating Acuna...but correcting for that doesnt get you to 90 wins

I doubt they fired him he had so many players injured.

They have been pretty unlucky. Lost 2 starting OF. A crappy 3B. And a ton of relievers. That said it is more of an indictment on their rebuild that they can’t tap into their system to find viable replacements. We turned over 5-6 BP guys this year too. We lost our starting CF and several starting rotation injuries had to be endured. The difference is we were for the most part able to tap our wealth of talent to fill the gaps.

lost two starting OF...one that stunk and isn't even injured.
they got to face Wilson and Wright in the opening series.
everyone deals with injuries. their severe lack of depth throughout every part of the team is staggering for a team who spends so much money.
they just don't spend it wisely, and they draft poorly.
the Braves lose Ender and Riley comes up; the Phillies lose McCutchen and Nick Williams has to play. Nick Williams is their depth.

their struggles this season aren't due to injuries. it's due to poor team-building resulting in poor depth all over the field. they aren't suited to deal with a single player missing time.

they went into the season thinking Maikel Franco was fine as a starter on a contender.
they didn't address starting pitching even a little bit even tho it was clear to a lot of people it would be an issue.
their FO is bad. period. both of those things say a lot about them.

In their defense, when quinn is healthy, they can move kingery to 3b. This will make them better. Of course, kingery has been really lucky offensively, so doubt he continues his pace
