Score board watching

With the 2018 season nearing an end, score board watching gains popularity. Braves fans have been primarily focused on the Phiiiies and Nats. Going into game 2 vs Fish, Braves hold a 3 game lead over Phiiiies and an 8.5 game lead over the Nats.

Overlooked is the race for best record in the NL. With their win over the Reds today, the Cubs now hold a 2 game lead over the Braves for best record in NL. In 3rd place, the Snakes are 1 game behind the Braves. Best record of course give that team home field advantage as long as they remain in NL POs.

35 games remaining. What do you think the magic number is to clinch the division..?

3 @ Miami 2-1
2 VS TB 1-1
1 VS CHC 0-1
3 VS PIT 2-1
3 VS BOS 1-2
4 @ ARI 2-2
3 @ SF 1-2
3 VS WAS 2-1
3 VS STL 1-2
4 VS PHI 2-2
3 @ NYM 2-1
3 @ PHI 1-2

I think that record would be realistic, putting us at 23-12 for the rest of the season, 89-73 for the year

If the Braves win 23 games, that would be 95 wins, they have 72 now. So the record would be 95-67

I am not even remotely worried about the gNats. The Braves can go .500 (basically) 17-18 (89-73 for the season) and the gNats would have to go 26-9 (90-73 for the season).....not happening

The total here is 17-18 and not 23-12

Braves, Nats and Phiiiies all lose. No change in NL East standings. Braves fall to 2.5 games back of Cubs for best record. Snakes are losing 6-1 in 6th to Seattle.

Missed an opportunity to really put some space between us and the Phillies tonight, but glad BJ's took care of business for us.

We should be up by four by the end of Sunday. I think we take the next two against the fish and Philly drops at least more to the BJs....

The gnats frankly don't worry me anymore (knock on wood)

Would LOVE to end up with best record in NL!

Magic number is now at 32, even though its a little early to start talking about that. We need to get as big of a lead as we can between now and Sept. 2nd. After that, we have a brutal stretch.

Red Sox for 3
@Diamondbacks for 4
@San Fran for 3
Nationals for 3
Cardinals for 3

After that we have that final 10 game stretch against PHI and NYM. But in that 16 game stretch leading up to it, I think a good goal would be to just take 8 out of 16, but that is a really really tough stretch of baseball. During that stretch the Phillies will have a much much easier road. They play 6 against the Marlins, 6 against the Mets, and 3 against the Nationals. They will probably win at least 9 out of those 15 and possibly 10 or 11.

I don't think I'll be comfortable heading into September unless we have like a 5 to 6 game lead. I really don't want the season to come down to those final 7 games against Philly, but it looks like it could be headed in that direction. They do have 4 at the Rockies in between our two series, so maybe the Rockies can help us as much as they killed us last week. Its bad for my heart, but man is it fun to be competitive.

I think if we can win 20 of our 34 remaining games, we will breeze into the playoffs as division champs. I think the Phillies will definitely lose more than 12 moving forward. That record would put us at 92-70 on the season. If we do what you are saying and go 17-18 the rest of the way, I think it will be extremely close and I think a lot will depend on how the Phillies finish in their remaining games against their 13 remaining games against Cubs, Nationals, and Rockies and also the final 7 against us.

Hypothetically if we were to win the division, would you prefer to play the wild card winner or another division winner? The wild card team is supposed to be at a disadvantage, yet it seems like they always come in with momentum.

I'd rather play the WC team- especially this year- with so many teams bunched up, there may be an extra game they have to play, and in the WC game, they will have burned their best starter and leaned heavily on their pen...
