Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

Imagine actually not wanting Elon and team to continue finding out this information?

I don’t not want the government to find waste, especially in the Department of Defense. I just don’t have enough trust in Elon Musk to illegally have him do so and then spend the rest of his day on his social media site claiming spending he doesn’t agree with is evidence of massive fraud and theft by lawmakers and pointing to their objections as further evidence they’re personally getting paid off.

Why would the DoD want to know how to protect it's members from social engineering? Did you forget about the soldiers who recently went off the reservation and committed terrorist actions?

I have noticed a lot of uproar over what is essentially common employee training that any company would pay for. The contracts might be too expensive in some of the cases, but people are focused on the description of some sort of training sounding woke when it’s actually just basic employer ****. Hopefully we can see some positives like a more transparent system for contract awards and such. Auditing the government for waste is worthwhile, I’m mostly frustrated by the sensationalism surrounding some of it.

Its sensationally bad funding trends.

This is why I don't think Trump is serious with the Gaza occupation.

But can you perhaps admit it might not be a good long-term strategy for the President of the United States to just declare he’s going to do some catastrophically stupid thing for “leverage” and then follow it up by just not doing it at all? Seems to create a bunch of unnecessary trouble for everybody else.

Sure it might not be or it might be good strategy.

That is still yet to be determined.

Why is it illegal? Whats the difference on all other governmetn workers that aren't appointed by congress that have access?

One thing I will say in defense of Elon Musk and his gaggle of rugrats is that I don’t understand why people are going after them for anything being done by them that might be illegal. Just as Elon Musk shouldn’t have as unfettered of access to the systems he’s in, he also doesn’t have accountability for that access. I’ve seen a lot of people claiming very loudly that the DOGE team should be put in prison for some of their actions, but it sure seems like leadership within these government departments just gave them what they wanted. Elon and company aren’t “stealing” funding or anything (well, hopefully not), they’re just doing what they said they would and other folks are giving them access they might not legally be allowed to have.

There are laws about who reviews payments?

Where are those written? There may very well be, but I'd like to at least read them. I've yet to come across a law about it and the left is barking so loudly about it, I'm sure they'd quote one if they had one.

If the president of the united states is giving authority to someone to review anything within the executive branch then nothing that person is doing is illegal (absent fraud/embezzelment/etc...)

Maybe the courts will determine it isn’t illegal, but from what I’ve read it doesn’t sound like some of what’s been done is within the purview of the Executive Branch, particularly from a “special government employee”

Its odd that the reaction to what Musk and team are doing is anything but gratitude.

Maybe the left wants the CIA to act as a propaganda arm around the world.

If you think almost everything USAID did was to liberal only, you're deluded.

I know it fits your narrative. But call me unconvinced that someone with an agenda like Elon wouldn't be pushing it.

To be fair, I legitimately thought that’s what the CIA essentially existed to do since its inception. If the CIA even is doing more left-wing stuff than right-wing, the only change in its mission would be the political leaning of its mission of ****ery.

I would want zero ****ery as it always comes back to bite us.

I think it's probablly easy to find out when money is being sent to foreign countires for dumb **** and put it in a list. Politians that are more upset about billions of dollars not going to foreign countires for dumb **** than the big issues we have domestically tells you where their priorities are.

Basically this.

People want results over process.

The message that Congress controls the power of the purse is gonna fall on deaf ears given the context this is shutting down billions of dollars of foreign “aid”

I agree. I'm frustrated that some of our elected politicans are freaking out about reducing waste in federal spending.

Thomas Sowell put it best "for bureaucrats procedure is everything and outcomes are nothing"

People want results. People that voted for Trump want this.

I’m not asking Trump supporters to care about the process, but I do hope the courts do.

You keep claiming something is illegal and just want things tied up in the courts.

Meanwhile the AMerican people (not just Trump supporters) appreciate finding waste in our system.

Its an endless slush fund at the expense of the American taxpayer.

The people fighting this are either on the take or mad that their side didn't do this first.
