Second ('Third') Trump Presidency Thread

today's GOP...so thirsty

Let me predict the future...... I dont know the validity of the charges but if convicted he likely wont get out before a Dem is in office. They will pardon him and make him a citizen. If he already in El Salvadore already they will cut them off to trade with US until he is returned. Then he will sue and using the new Babbit precedent to order the US attorney agree to a settlement. Bukele might even face human trafficking charges if they can get him into US custody.
If he actually gets convicted of human trafficking by a court, I’d like to believe the Dems would have the good sense to just let him serve his sentence and deport him, or at the very least memory hole the whole affair, but you’re probably right about the whole thing.

For what it’s worth, I still support the focus on his case even if he turns out to be a gang member. We simply cannot merely take the government’s word for criminal proceedings and ignore court orders to imprison people.

Anybody got a picture of Trumps mug shot handy?
Part of the reason why I think we are heading down a very dark path is our willingness to elect someone with an extensive criminal record. From sexual battery to suborning election fraud. Plus of course the not so small fact he doesn't believe in constitutional niceties such as due process. And the not so small fact that both he and Vance tried to convince the country that dark-skinned immigrants were eating their cats and dogs.

I think you and the Dems made clear that nobody is above the law. If Trump believes that Newsome is protecting and abiding illegal aliens, then that is a crime that should be prosecuted.

And as you've made clear, the courts are there to decide his fate. The wheels of justice grandly slowly but they do grind forward

Actually no. A criminal investigation or prosecution has to be properly predicated. It can't be something that arises out of a prosecutor's or president's whim.

what's the secret sauce of manufacturing a dude lighting cars on fire?
No secret sauce (or Marines or National Guard) needed to bring the perp to justice. But what is being claimed here is an invasion. The president and his minions are thirsty for an escalation. If they keep pushing they will get one. Liberate LA!!

how would you define an invasion?
the act of entering a country with an armed force with the objective of occupying and controlling it

the allied invasion of Normandy would be an example

Trump and his minions have used this rhetoric (invading caravans, pet-eating dark-skinned immigrants) to stoke fear and provide a pretext for an escalation. What is happening in California is mostly pretextual. Trump and his minions are manufacturing an escalation.

I think it aligns perfectly that our academic and the left in general wish to blame the people setting cars and businesses on fire and assaulting police are the victims of the republicans.

nothing ever learned from this group

i think i'm pretty consistent in wanting to see the law applied to crimes of all kinds including setting cars and businesses on fire, and including throwing rocks at cars (with an enhancement since the target in this case was law enforcement)

but that's not really what is at stake here...what we have is a president thirsty to escalate the situation using rhetoric about insurrection and invasion...if he and his minions keep pushing they will likely get their wish

it would be terrible of a president to wish to escalate
