Smoltz elected to Cooperstown along with Pedro, Unit, and Biggio.

I am watching this game, among other big games by Smoltzie, again to celebrate:

This is the best Braves news I've heard in a while.... So glad for Smoltz

Other 3 too... Biggio, classy 2nd baseman for the Astros.... little but deadly. Not a big fan of his arm guard in later years

And Randy and Pedro.... I remember in the late 90's, early 00's... Those were the two starters in the league you didn't want to mess with. Both would give you a clean cut shave at the plate.... Well deserved

Piazza? Eh, people suspect he was on the juice or something?

I think I'll watch this one again too:

Of course, Smoltzie also pitched very good in this classic game 7 vs the Pirates too (and Francisco Cabrera becomes a Braves hero!):

My favorite player ever is going in. Congrats Smoltzie.

Well deserved for all four. Said it last year about Maddux. Randy Johnson not getting 100 percent is a disservice to baseball.

One of the most impressive things for me about Smoltz that proves he should be in the HOF (and no one ever talks about it) was when John had that one year where he had to completely reinvent his pitching mechanics to be a side-armer.....and STILL dominated everyone, maybe even moreso. Of course, it seemed to have contributed to his having to undergo arm surgery again. But my god, that was one of the most impressive feats I've ever seen on the baseball diamond in terms of a person finding a way to be a winner.

Yep, I remember that, it was pretty special. I'll also never forget the 2005 NLDS when I believe he was pitching through serious injury. I remember them stating that if it had gone to a game 5, he would not even have been able to pitch. Horacio was at home waiting.

Is Big Unit going in on with Mariners hat or D'Backs hat? Pitched a few more years with Seattle, but won 4 Cy Young Awards with Arizona.

He's going in as a D-back.... Not so sure I wouldn't feel a bit shunned if I was a Mariner's fan. That's where he made his name.... Not saying either or... But that to me is a harder decision than it was for Maddux..... And even Maddux couldn't choose between his two main teams

Doyle Alexander.

Hey it's not like it was a terrible trade for the Tigers as they got exactly what they wanted for that year. A guy to put them over the hump to get into the playoffs. Obviously, they have no idea that they're giving up a future Hall of Famer in the process but hey... hindsight is 20/20

Doyle Alexander.

He pitched like a HOFer for the Tigers in '87. Went back to look at his #'s, but only vaguely remember him pitching for the Braves in 1980. Must've had a solid relationship with Cox (Braves 2x & Blue Jays).

Oh, yes, I'm attending the ceremony.

It is fitting that John Smoltz is inducted. He is part of arguably the greatest pitching rotation ever. I would put Maddux Glavine and Smoltz up against any rotation in history. Congrats Smoltzie!

The Big Unit getting a higher percentage than Maddux is complete BS. Maddux was the absolute best pitcher of the last 50 years. Just ridiculous.

I know its rather pointless for how many votes u get as long as you get in. And I know there were probably more people that voted this yr than last yr, throwing off the percentage points. But whoever voted for Big Unit and didn't vote for Maddux is the biggest moron in the history of morons.

Personal favorite Smoltz story, and may have shared this before either here or a Scout. This was when the games were still on TBS. Can't remember exactly who it was against, possibly the Marlins. Can't remember what year either, but Smoltz was starting. The count ran full, while there were 2 outs. Pay off pitch, and the batter assumed that it was ball 4, and he was ready to flip his bat. At just that moment, the umpire made the strike sign. It seemed to be almost in slow motion, and it was like he was bowing a violin. Smoltz, expressionless, simply turned and walked off the mound. It was like a scene out of a movie.

RJ and Maddux were both great. And Clemens is the best pitcher of the last 50 years.

The seperation between RJ and Maddux is minimal. Maddux pitched more, RJ had a better ERA+ and more Ks. Both are amazing pitchers. Maddux had a better longevity career, RJ had a better peak.
