Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

Funny, I live in California and never got a dime from the state.
What can I say. My mother got a check last year. I'll double check (pun intended) when I call her in a couple days.

Well no need to bother her about her. Here is an article.

In February, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that qualifying Californian's will receive a $600 Golden State stimulus check. The stimulus package was signed by Newsom on February 23, and a total of 5.7 million Californian's will be eligible according to the governor's office. $600 payments have started to go out to Californians on April 15th from The California Franchise Tax Board and will be received in the same way you received your tax return. For eligibility on the Golden State Stimulus click here! If eligible, the speed at which you will receive your payment depends on when you filed your taxes. The state must receive your 2020 taxes before the payment is sent and the deadline to send your taxes for the one-time payment is October 15, 2021. If your taxes were filed between January 1st and March 1st you can expect the Golden State Stimulus after April 15th. If you filed after March 2nd it can take up to 45 days to receive payment depending on the method of delivery.

Funny, I live in California and never got a dime from the state. And before you say I must have made too much, I am teacher (one who worked a full year of in person classes) with a wife on disability due to a surgery and a high school teen. Also the CSU system keeping cost low is a joke. Our family is expected to contribute 15,000 annually for our son's freshman year. This is in addition to financial aide and scholarships. California sucks.

And if you own a car it is $400 this year. $800 if you have 2 cars.

I suspect your wife's disability benefits also paid for by the taxpayers of California. Such things are more generous in some states than others. It would be gracious to send a thank you note rather than whining about not getting a dime from the state.

The maximum amount of time individuals are allowed to collect benefits from State Disability Insurance is:

California: 52 weeks for disability, 6 weeks for paid family leave
Hawaii: 26 weeks
New Jersey: 26 weeks for disability leave; 42 days for family leave.
New York: 26 weeks
Puerto Rico: 26 weeks

52 weeks!!...sounds excessive to me

hard to believe a poster whose wife is on disability is complaining about not getting a dime...but i will pretend not to be aghast at the entitlementism...don't want to provoke a backlash whereby folks are driven to vote for the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene

No amount of academic lecturing can explain away this movement. The people are telling you with their feet what they think of these two states

"According to the New York Post, 21,546 citizens switched their New York driver’s license for a Florida one during the first four months of 2022. That’s a 12 percent increase from 2021 during the same period.

The totals for this year are 55 percent higher than the first four months of 2019 pre-pandemic.

The total number of citizens from New York that exchanged their licenses for the Sunshine State last year was 61,728. However, the number is expected to surge this year if the current trend continues, the outlet added."

Nope she paid into her own disability account through her employer.

I'm pretty sure it's like unemployment insurance. Employer collects the money and the state acts as insurer. Everyone likes to think it's "their" medicare or social security. But its a benefit program paid for by taxpayers. All of us. At various times presidents (governors) propose some sort of privatization for these programs. In effect turn social security into an IRA or disability into a portable individual plan (like buying private life insurance). Some countries (Chile) have done something like that. But not here.

i like that you discredit looking at why this might be happening and just shoot to your reason as the only reason and you call others sheep lol

but i'd like to see the age and other demographics of those numbers

i mean, i know you have no desire to and i'm not gonna go digging for that info cause i wouldn't even know if it's out there

but would be interesting to see it
