Very Flirtatious, but Doubts What Love Is.
But would he actually be an upgrade?? I might be more inclined to give some of the younger guys a try. Maybe even stretch Matzek out, try the opener for several games. Boyd's stats this year don't reflect a big improvement or even a stabilizing influence.
He’d certainly help, but he’s also certainly no ace acquisition. I think we could expect a 4.0-4.5 fip, with a greater likelihood he ends up closer to the higher end of that range. Again: useful, especially if he’s dependably pitching six innings or so—and especially in light of where the Braves’ rotation is right now—but not a TOR anchor.
If the Braves were going to “overpay”, à la clv’s proposition, I’d like to see if they could swing a package deal, buying low on Michael Fulmer while his bounceback is still up-in-the-air, and given (like Boyd) he’s about to start earning sizeably more via arbitration. The Tigers might be reluctant to trade both, depending on where they think Fulmer’s recovery stands; but it’d be a nice one-stop shop for Anthopoulos as he tries to stabilise the rotation in the midst of this weird year.
