But would he actually be an upgrade?? I might be more inclined to give some of the younger guys a try. Maybe even stretch Matzek out, try the opener for several games. Boyd's stats this year don't reflect a big improvement or even a stabilizing influence.

He’d certainly help, but he’s also certainly no ace acquisition. I think we could expect a 4.0-4.5 fip, with a greater likelihood he ends up closer to the higher end of that range. Again: useful, especially if he’s dependably pitching six innings or so—and especially in light of where the Braves’ rotation is right now—but not a TOR anchor.

If the Braves were going to “overpay”, à la clv’s proposition, I’d like to see if they could swing a package deal, buying low on Michael Fulmer while his bounceback is still up-in-the-air, and given (like Boyd) he’s about to start earning sizeably more via arbitration. The Tigers might be reluctant to trade both, depending on where they think Fulmer’s recovery stands; but it’d be a nice one-stop shop for Anthopoulos as he tries to stabilise the rotation in the midst of this weird year.

this just...wouldn't, and shouldn't, happen.

3 of the 4 engines are on fire. There's a hurricane building over the carrier. But yeah, no need to even think about bailing out and flying another day. Fly that plane on in. We got a battle to win....and maybe a war to lose.

I mean, this is simply the mechanism of trades this year, so there’s a good chance it does indeed happen. If a team wants to trade a prospect, or prospects, not on their sixty-man, those players will have to be added to the sixty-man prior to the trade. Weird or unwelcome, it’s just the way it is.

With the young guys only lasting one time through order in their first two starts, it is a bit like using an opener... Not intentional, but that is kind of how it is working out.

Soroka is a brutal loss. We've basically been doing 3 openers and Soroka/Fried. Now it's Fried and 4 openers.

Will say the bullpen IS deep enough to use openers once Will Smith is back. Couldnt rely on this for 162, but with only 48 games left, you can work through that. Need Hamels to comeback at the end of the year, and one of Wright/Newk/Touki to develop into a 3. Then you can opener the 4th spot. I'm really just not sure how much AA is gonna try to trade valuable assets in this shortened season. Can see him sink and swim with the young guys to see what needs to be addressed in the winter. SP is by far the biggest need next winter, followed by re-upping Ozuna if the DH is long-term.

i’m not objecting to that part.
trading Freeman and Ender punts next year.
that part is dumb.

Ohfosho.

My bad—thought you were confused / disputing the bizarre trade rules, because of what was bolded.
(And, tbh, I didn’t actually read Harry’s insane final paragraph.)

ah yes. i did not bold that..he did in his original post.

Yes. He'd be an upgrade.

I'm not sure Atlanta should kill itself trying to win this year, but it seems obvious they need someone who can log innings.

Trading Freeman is dumb. Trading Ender is smart, but maybe not possible.

Not sure anymore that trading Inciarte is smart, given the Braves’ dearth of LH batters and the extent Acuña has looked much better in RF. Pache could likely replace Ender’s contributions with the glove, but he’s RH and unlikely to immediately do much with the bat.

If Pache is what he's said to be, he will be an upgrade defensively.

Ender isn't an average hitter any more even with the platoon advantage. A small sample is what it is, but he's not looking great in any metric. I think he's lost a step personally. I've always hated that extension so definite confirmation bias at work, but he's been bad so far.

Pache can certainly be worse at the plate, but the Braves can get by with Acuña in CF if need be in this dumb season.

Would the Met’s trade DeGrom straight up for Freddie (maybe with a few smaller prospects)?

Some might think that would be crazy, but we have a TON of offense. Freddie is only signed thru 2021...DeGrom has four more years.

If we had Degrom, Soroka, Fried....that.is.crazy. We most likely would have won it all last year. As good a Freddie is...man...i would do it.

The Mets kind of already have a 1B. Not to mention they would be excoriated in the NY press if they traded DeGrom to a division rival (unless they were getting Acuna and Albies in return).

Do I expect the Braves to trade Freeman? No. I included him because he's only got one more year. Would I trade him? Only IF the return was good enough to justify figuring out how to replace him for 2021. And face it, it's expected from me.

The rest is something that should be considered no matter what given where the Braves are. Not saying they must do anything. However, the window has already been shortened by the loss of talent and draft picks/position due to MLB penalties. Making panic moves shipping out young talent to try and limp into the expanded playoffs of 2020 is just dumb in the long haul.

The Braves have had a run of bad pitching luck combined with a poor hit rate on the best pitching prospects (at least so far). Going down with the ship instead of living to fight another day is just dumb.

Snit is going to put Neck in RF again. It's more inevitable than Thanos.
