We can only trade people on the taxi squad this year right? Plus a ptbnl or cash.

I don’t understand why you don’t start Davidson now. If he’s not good enough to play now, why is he worth having? Maybe a fill in for a trade? Weigel is similar but he’s had some people pegging him for the pen.

Muller and Anderson struggled with the new baseball last year.
Anyone know if we are using the same baseball as last year?

I hadn't heard anything like trade eligibility being restricted. Is that true?

F it. Go get Degrom. I don't think I've seen a pitcher this good in his prime since Pedro. 101 a few times last night. Reminds me of Hideki Irabu FFS.

Wait... Hideki Irabu? The Hideki Irabu who was such a spectacular failure in the majors, who went back to Japan after something like five seasons of five-plus ERAs? The one Steinbrenner publiucly called him a fat pus-sy toad (papers all censored the word, but if you watch the video, it was pronounced to rhyme with mussy, not wussy, as in something filled with pus)? THAT'S who DeGrom reminds you of?!?

2020 just keeps getting better. Maybe...just
Maybe this forces a guy or two to step up. Wouldn’t that be great if that happened and then also Soroka returned next year? One can dream....

He threw hard bro. Sorry i'm not sorry.

DeGrom would be ideal- but we still have a pitching issue. I think we may need two.
And DeGrom would cost so much....I am thinking Pache +waters+ Anderson and Weigel.

Honestly, I don't see any major trades this season (or possibly this offseason for that matter) from any one.

Honestly, I don't see any major trades this season (or possibly this offseason for that matter) from any one.

From MLBTR: "The trade deadline is August 31st. ONLY players in the 60-man player pool may be traded. Any player that is traded must go into an acquiring team’s player pool. (As a practical matter, it seems there’s nothing to stop teams from adding prospects to the 60-man player pool specifically in order to trade them. The acquiring team would need to be capable of carrying such players in their own 60-man player pool while still fielding a 26-man active roster of capable big leaguers.)"

The way I read the bold section above is that any player can be traded. They would have to first be added to the 60-man pool to be traded, then carried on the acquiring team's 60-man pool.

I know this won't be popular, but someone has to say it. Maybe the Braves should punt 2020, trade some players of value under short term contracts given a reasonable return - Folty (if he bounces back and has ANY value), Ozuna, Melancon, Inciarte, Greene, Flowers, Markakis, Duvall (maybe even Freeman given the right offer), and begin the window again in 2021. Most of those guys won't be around post 2020 anyway. Inciarte has an option and Freeman is signed through 2021. But overall, those guys only have value for 2020, a season shortened by pandemic, ruined by injury and threatened by cancellation.

Relatively sure it's not just going through your mind - although discussing Freeman is likely a waste of time, if they didn't trade him when undertaking a full rebuild there's probably a close to zero chance they'll entertain that now. The problem there is, how many of tose names ACTUALLY hold any value? Ozuna? Probably. Maybe Melancon if AA agrees to eat all the money. Markakis will re-opt-out if he's dealt. Greene's a middle reliever making big money at this point. Ender can't hit and needs a platoon partner. Duvall needs a platoon partner. Nobody nibbled at Folty when they could have had him for cash - they're not likely to offer any prospect of consequence for him now unless he gets back up here and makes 4 starts showing he regained his velocity AND AA eats some money.

I see no reason not to trade Ozuna and Melancon IF you could get something for them, but at this point they're somewhat minor additions for teams on the outside looking in - might as well keep them and hope some of our young arms take a step forward and surprise us.

this just...wouldn't, and shouldn't, happen.

Crazy place to see his name brought up first, but someone mentioned Robbie Ray in the MLBTR chat. Still think it's all but impossible to picture a "big move", but I'm not sure a potential deal for someone like Ray or Boyd qualifies as "big". Also not sure how much AA would be willing to part with for either.

Today has sucked to be a Braves fan, for sure, but looking on the bright side, we've been 32-19 since the start of last year with the starting pitchers we have (Fried, Wright, Wilson, Touki, Newcomb) including 6-2 this year.

Where is Wilson, anyways? Is he hurt? Seems like he would be next man up. BR has been running a simulation for 2020 and had Wilson with 20 starts, a 2.92 ERA and 3 WAR.

I really like Wilson, but I think the problem with him is that he is a two pitch guy(third pitch hasn’t developed). It sounds like they have decided to put him in the bull pen. I think it’s too early, but with so many waiting behind him...I doubt he gets many if any more looks as a starter. It’s a shame...I really like his bulldog mentality.

Saw Muller two years ago in AA, and he looked pretty close to ready for anything.

Glavine said over the weekend, "Anderson's not read." Why the hell isn't he?

Still, IO would like to see Tucker Davidson.

AA said today.....

"The Atlanta organization is now going without four of the five anticipated members of the starting staff that Anthopoulos constructed last winter. Soroka follows Cole Hamels in suffering an injury, though it’s still possible the veteran Hamels will return later in the year. Mike Foltynewicz was outrighted after showing much-reduced stuff, while Felix Hernandez opted out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns."

"That volume of significant losses obviously puts the Braves in position to pursue new arms, and Anthopoulos acknowledged that he’s been exploring the marketplace since Summer Camp reopened. However, getting a deal done under the present circumstances represents a major challenge. “It’s very hard to say” whether the team can get something done, says the veteran executive."

“Today, the likelihood is we’ll stay internal,” Anthopoulos explained, “but we’ll continue to inquire and see if we can line up on a deal.”

This is why I wonder if a deal for Boyd might be a legitimate option. There were rumors floating this weekend that they were ready to call Mize up. They've now also secured the extra year of control for Manning as well. They're bound to be still looking to add depth to their system. Adding a piece like Muller or Davidson would give them a really nice balance of lefties and righties that are all-but-ready (Mize/Skubal/Manning/Muller or Davidson would be a really nice group IMO). You'd still have Shuster to replace whichever one was traded on the depth chart.

What kind of value would AA need to add - particularly that would be useful to them? A-Jax would possibly be an option since they only have one Catcher currently on their roster (and one in their Top 10 prospects). Maybe one of the numbers-inclined crowd could take a look at their charts. I realize it would probably be an overpay, but would a quantity over quality deal like Davidson or Muller, Wilson, and A-Jax really hurt that bad since Boyd wouldn't be a rental (and we don't seem to be convinced that Wilson can be a starter in the long run anyway)?

Just not sure how much value Boyd might have at this point - particularly to other contenders.

But would he actually be an upgrade?? I might be more inclined to give some of the younger guys a try. Maybe even stretch Matzek out, try the opener for several games. Boyd's stats this year don't reflect a big improvement or even a stabilizing influence.
