Spring Training 2015

Yea, this year is going to be more fun. Now on that note, let me piss down your back and tell you it's raining.

Seriously, our strong bullpen is mostly gone minus Kimbrel (and Jaime is actually going to be in it!), rotation is worse, our starting outfield defense is bad and will include a DH-type even after trading Gattis. And now they're considering carrying a bunch of second basemen and no true CFer. Yep this is going to be fun!

Hey nsacpi wherever you went I think it's time I join ya and I'll buy the drinks. I'm needing more than a few right now. :)

It's a rebuilding year, why be so upset?

It didn't have to be a rebuilding year.

Last year's team was "flawed" because it had BJ Upton, Chris Johnson, and Dan Uggla taking a third of the at bats. It was not flawed because of Heyward, Upton, and Gattis.

WE shipped out the good and kept the crap

Contrary to popular belief, Heyward, JUp and Gattis were a reason the team was also flawed.

Whether or not you want to believe that or not is up to you.

I agree CJ/BJ/Uggla were the main reason but those three that were shipped out were hardly Mike Trout.

To be fair, part of the reason we shipped out the good was because we couldn't get rid of the crap.

Would expect Cody Martin to get the last #Braves bullpen spot as long reliever. In that scenario, Folty would be in Triple-A rotation.

Interesting thesis. Is that we're projected to lose over 9 wins from LF, RF, and C from last year's team?

Martin will get that last bullpen spot as long he gets through today's game fine. Folty will begin the year in Gwinnett's rotation

Outman will begin the year on the DL. Would've likely been released w/ Russell had his shoulder not become an issue late in camp.

Explains why the trade market for those guys was so moribund, I guess.

Never said they sucked, but they werent perfect players the way some made it out to be.

Heyward- AMAZING defensive player but inconsistent at the plate. Maybe he puts it together with the Cards in a contract year of course.
JUp- When he's hot, almost impossible to get out, but has way too many bad spells and isnt a great defender.
Gattis- Injury prone, and not a good defender in either LF or C, had to sell while the iron is hot.

Rip away.

The idea that Martin has to make it through this appearance fine to get that last spot really proves thethe's point.

It was the players in the line-up surrounding those three that were the real problem, namely BJ and CJ. Plus shipping off all our veteran leadership (including Huddy and cheap players like Reed Johnson) hurt too.

I want him on the team, period, but I would prefer him in the rotation. Bullpen is fine for now.

I wanted him in the rotation as well but that shipped sailed when they got Cahil. Stults has a history of solid performance so I'm fine with him getting the last spot.

Martin should get a shot out of the pen though. Not sure what he has left to show in the minors.
