Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

Still plenty of options for the bullpen. Braves have done a solid job targetting guys that they feel can learn with the instruction in the minor leagues.

"High likelihood" that #Braves Medlen is going to need a 2nd Tommy John surgery

Words can't describe how awful I feel for Medlen. Hopefully he can still carve out a solid career as a relief pitcher. Glad he got paid something in his career though.

+1

One of my favorites.

Not sure if he can come back from another TJ as a SP, feel so awful for him.

Wood looking rough early. He needs to stiffen up and show he is ready to play with the big boys.

Well, he has always thrown really really hard, just had a hard time staying healthy (TJ surgery) and locating his slider. IF he can consistantly locate that breaking pitch, then he could be a viable back of the pen setup type guy.

So what if Wood becomes a stud #2? Since he has been drafted he has done nothing but get guys out.

Absolutely love Wood's upside, I think he is great. Guy has performed at whatever level has been thrown at him. Also consistantly at 1K/IP at every level.

And I have no doubts that the guy is going to have a very good season for us this year, whether it be in the pen or in the rotation, but I do expect some growing pains like with any other pitcher. Some people just expect everyone to get called up and automatically be Pedro Martinez, doesn't work that way.

I like Wood.

Probably the only player that I wish got paid more. His half season in the rotation was every bit as good as Maddux in my opinion. He still owns the record for consecutive team wins when starting which is a record that could last 100 years.

Since when? You were THE voice of the detractors last year.

HARDLY! I simply said that he could not be counted on for the playoffs (and I was right). I said over and over again that I liked him and thought he would play a huge part in 2014.

I remember it quite vividly that you kept insisting he wasn't ready.

To be counted on in the playoffs. Yes. I also mentioned that he was being rushed (which he was). He performed admirably. Even if I had said he wasn't ready, that would have no bearing on whether I liked him or not.
