Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

La Stella ABs are quality. Watches the pitchers pitches. Swings and makes contact.

His stance and body type are Robinson Canoey like

I don't want to crap in the punch bowl, but when Robinson Cano was the same age as Tommy La Stella is now, he was going into his fourth year as the Yankees' starting 2B.

That said, I never liked the Uggla contact extension (and have gone on ad nauseum about it since it happened) and I'd take just about anyone at 2B instead of him.

Well you may not have wanted to but that is in fact what you did!

Can't be worse than Uggla's defense...

It just isn't possible. LaStella is EXACTLY the type of hitter this lineup needs to round it out. The Braves are doing a diservice to themselves by leaving camp with Uggla as our second baseman. There is no way you can convince me that LaStella is not ready to be a hitter in the major leagues.

What does that have do with anything? La Stella went to college while Cano signed out of high school internationally. La Stella hasn't even been given the chance and didn't even start the minors until he was 22. Also, on the same token, who is expecting La Stella to be as good as the best 2nd baseman in all of baseball? Comparing Cano to La Stella isn't really a legitimate comparison in the least. If you want a comparison, why not compare him to Matt Carpenter who came into the minors as a 23 year old and didn't find regular playing time until he was 25/26? He's probably the second or third best second baseman in baseball so why do we care about where Cano was at La Stella's age?

Well, it has a lot to do with it when someone compares him to Robinson Cano. I didn't make the "Cano-like" comparison. ViperVisor did in #983.

I frankly don't know how La Stella will do. My guess is he'll start the season in Gwinnett.

I didn't realize you were referring to his post in your comment, however, I don't feel like he was saying he will be Cano-like... just that his stance and body are similar. I think Carpenter is the real comparison and I agree he will probably start in AAA but as soon as Uggla starts struggling again he will be up almost a full year as a regular before Carpenter.
