Not sure why anyone should be surprised at how Wood KS doing. He has done nothing but dominate since being drafted.

Gearrin's ERA is through the roof but he's looked great the two times I saw him pitch. Today and Thursday against the Mets.

Small sample size plus shoddy defense that one outing he got hit hard runs wise (not many balls were hit well though). He has looked mostly good otherwise (and it was very windy that bad day he had). Varvaro on the other hand has looked mostly bad, but he did last spring too so nothing new for him in spring training.

That said, I do think it is time to let one of them go. I'd vote Varvaro because I don't expect him to be as good this year. Hopefully we can trade him soon and get a little something.

Is BJ Upton fooling us this spring? Should we be buying into what he is doing?

It is only spring training but I rather see him do well than struggle. Same goes for Uggla. I have more hope for BJ Upton than I do Uggla personally. If BJ could just hit .240 or so he would help a lot more if he steals a lot of bases (and plays good defense in centerfield).

No we can't all of a sudden believe BJ is a hitter. Granted positive at bats in the springs are a better sign though. But once he faces real major leaguers again we will see if fails again or hits a little bit.

It looks like Garcia made the team with his performance today. Which isn't a surprise given our lack of depth due to injuries.

This is definitely where I'm leaning towards but all the hits up the middle and even some to the opposite field are encouraging.

He's not going to hit for a high average, but it's not unreasonable to ask for a .250 avg, which would be an enormous upgrade over last year. It's not like he can't hit .250. That along with the decent pop he offers, and he should be at least average and provide a big improvement to the lineup over last year.

You are THAT sure Floyd is returning in a month (or do you think Hale is staying over Garcia)?

Personally, I trust Hale more than I do Garcia. But I figure Hale goes down no matter what when Santana is ready. Garcia being a veteran will get every shot possible from Fredi to stay in the rotation (at least till Floyd is ready).
