Swanson getting the call...

Using the same publication for those two numbers? But yeah baseball america top 100 in 99

Chen #3
Lombard #26
Odaliz Perez #31
Kevin McGlinchy #47
Furcal #60

these rankings should tell us all we need to know about "prospects". chances are dansby will turn into george lombard and this talk of service time will be forgotten. the more i think about it, the more baffled i am by the criticism here. we're worried about a year of service time? seriously? if he's good, he'll get signed to be the guy for the next 20 years. what else is there to worry about? it'll be 10 more years before the bulk of the studs in the system are free agents anyhow. dansby could be winding his career down by then. it really makes zero sense to hold him back given the stagger of the system and all of the rest with the new stadium. people claiming that this is outright moronic are really coming off as moronic here. just sayin.

Could the team bring in more revenue now and early next year because Dansby is up? Quite possibly.

And the playing without pressure argument is a good one.

I think there is an argument to be made on both sides, it's the people who call it 'moronic' that I ignore. They are arguing for purely financial reasons, yet also seem upset that the Braves are making this move at least in part due to financial reasons.

Do you think Swanson is going to put more butts in the seat? I'm not sure. This isn't Jeff Francoeur or Jason Heyward coming up.

Well swanson's from Georgia, so I suspect they'll be more fans in the seats tonight... Maybe just 10-15, but every little bit helps

True. I think it more has to do with Swanson being a part of the opening day 2017 team that they're going to try and "sell". Coming up now makes that sell a little easier giving him the experience needed as well as introducing him to the fans.

50 and I would both recall that Golden Era fondly.

You haven't lived unless you watched David Justice try to play first base.

As bad as this year's team is, I still think the worst baseball I ever watched was the 1987 Braves. They didn't lose 100 games, but they were just about the most boring team (except for Dale Murphy) ever assembled.

I agree. If Swanson and the braves play well this last stretch, it could help us with FAs also

It will be interesting (though we will probably never no) if the call up actually ends up making financial sense. I don't think it's possible that he puts more butts in the seats (personally) than the additional year will cost.

another reason to get him in is to get the team finally moving forward. it's been backward for a few years now and if the bravos want to avoid being in last place for the next three years, it's not a bad idea to start putting some pieces into place. it's kind of why i was against trading julio. unless we all want to be 90 by the time the braves are good again, why not start going forward? they'll get to throw in a top draft pick on top of what they just signed and it'll be time to go. **** losing until 2020. keep these kids going forward and getting better.

So we finally have another Georgia boy who grew up a Braves fan. Will he be the long time hero that Francoeur and Heyward were not? Mac was a little bit I suppose.

why are you focused on evening out the balance sheet? i'ts not like the braves aren't going to be absolutely raking in the cash before long. but since you are, i bet you aren't taking into account what a braves club would be worth if they started improving a little earlier than they otherwise might. dansby may not single handedly fill up the stadium, but an exciting young braves team with some hope sure will help. that may be closer to being a reality in the shorterish future than it otherwise had been if every call up is going to be determined by extending some service clock.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the continue to tank plan. They have a good opportunity right now. People who never go to games are already talking about going now with the stadium being easier to get to, and more to do there. That will only last so long if we do not have an entertaining team to watch.

Well to be fair... he caught most of the throws, but had a hard time keeping his foot on the bag while doing so.

Ken Caminiti at first was a legend at first in his own right, man could that guy pick it. I'm laughing histerically right now recalling some of the moments.
