The Coronavirus, not the beer

I think what is going on in a lot of these situations is a local business may have had its own rules about masks, but without city or state backing was fighting a losing battle getting compliance. Now with an ordinance backing them up, they are winning the compliance battle.

US COVID-19 deaths up 20% over last week

Mississippi sees a 75% increase

Mississippi now has the most deaths on a per capita basis

Yes, Mississippi was one of the hotspots identified by

@FAScientists weeks ago.

We continue to see slow and late responses around the country.

That tweet at the bottom isn't correct. Mississippi's deaths per million is 408 (1215 total deaths, 2.98 million population... check it yourself) per worldometers. Worldometers has it...

1. NJ 1751 deaths per million
2. NY 1664
3. CT 1220
4. MA 1204
5. RI 924
6. DC 805
7. LA 728
8. MI 629
9. IL 580
10. MD 546
11. PA 542
12. DE 531
Tie13. IN and MS 408

Maybe his tweet means for the week, but it says "Mississippi now has the most deaths on a per capita basis" which is incorrect. I'm sure we aren't the only one doing this, but we backlogged deaths on July 7th where the persons died in June. This probably skewed the numbers for the week some. Not sayIng we doing a good job bc we aren't... our hospitals are starting to be overrun.

Sweden's case numbers look to be going down considerably. Is anyone following it closely enough to know if testing is remaining consistent? Have they changed policies? It would be a pretty good sign for us if they are starting to hit herd immunity.

The folks protesting need to look at the numbers. The polling numbers showing the country is with them. And the data on the spread of COVID19. And public officials should be giving those data a lot of weight before permitting those demonstrations.

It has been the case for a while but the data of the past few weeks should convince everyone we need to pull together on this.

Median age of people testing positive in Florida up to 40 from 35 a week ago. It is very difficult to keep this bottled up in a particular age group.

Not herd immunity. Sweden has a few luxuries the US doesn't. First off Sweden is the size of California. And it's surrounded by places that are following the rules well. Sweden also has faith in their government, and universal health care.

The problem is there is absolutely zero research saying that heard immunity can actually be achieved with this thing. Some studies suggest a person may only keep the antibodies for a couple months. If that’s the case there will be no such thing as herd immunity. And it’s not exactly a reach when looking at other coronaviruses. Relying on heard immunity is an awful plan and a dangerous idea.

I followed them up through about 2-3 weeks ago. I've become more involved in stock trading and it's sucking up most of free time lol.

Both their deaths and new cases are going down, which is great news, though I haven't been keeping up enough to know whether their testing has gone down considerably or if they're implementing more preventative actions. Either way, I will take good news where I can I find it.
