The Trump Presidency

There's just no way, on a piece of this magnitude, that you allow yourselves to miss the signs so badly and expose your bureau (and every paper/website/new station that picks up your wire story - so far, a **** ton).

So you sit on it until they comment? What if they never do?

If the conversation is about the trustworthiness and motivation of the media, advantage Trump. A lot of members of the media are all too prone to playing into this dynamic.

If AP believed in the sourcing for the story, they aren't at fault or running it without comment as long as they solicited comment. All the WH had to do was say "it was an early draft that was never seriously considered" . . . which is what DHS now say. That they didn't is either irresponsible or cynical.

Well, in all fairness, while agreeing with the general sentiment that there is a certain decorum behind the way these stories should come to light, "it was a draft" is not the message that most people are going to take away from a story like this.

Rote denial is a much safer route - even if out and out misleading.

That's true, although in this case you'd think it would be a little tough to say "we have not discussed any plans to do precisely what we said during the campaign that we were going to do."

That's just where we are now, I guess.

I would've framed my entire story on having major information that the White House explicitly refused to comment on when given the opportunity, leaving it to the reader to make his/her own inferences.

Slug: 100K troops in the streets? White House/DHS ignore questions about immigration document

Not run the piece, wait for it to be denied, and then come out whining that the WH didn't respond when asked.

The piece did say that both WH and DHS ignored request for comment. I'm really not sure what you're looking for here.

"Requests to the White House and the Department of Homeland Security for comment and a status report on the proposal were not answered."

My suggestion is that the story should have been predicated more on the curious radio silence (as a form of legitimization) than on the assumption that Trump had ever seriously considered mobilizing the National Guard.

I dont believe this story one bit. How many of those 100k would refuse. Then Trump has to lock them up. How many will go into hiding. Gotta find them and lock them and the ones harboring fugitives up. Hope it happens though.

Fair enough. I expect that might become more the norm, since this is not the first time it's happened.

Ford is NOT scrapping plans to build factories in Mexico

Ford is sticking with its plan to build two new factories in Mexico, despite an announcement last month that it had scrapped plans for a plant in the central state of San Luis Potosi.

The US carmaker said a planned factory in the central state of Guanajuato will build engines and transmissions, while another in the northern city of Chihuahua will make car parts for use by Ford factories in the United States, South America and Asia.

The two facilities will cost about $2.5 billion and employ some 3,800 people, said Gabriel Lopez, president and CEO of Ford Mexico.

quite frankly I am so butt hurt over my guy not getting a fair shake in 2012 that I am rooting for chaos. They said my guy was to extreme to even be talked about by the media and now we have Trump. Thats just insult on top of injury. If you and the rest of the country want to go full retard then lets go full retard.

I feel like the more insane the policy would be in practice, the more likely I am to believe Trump is about to enact it.

Mattis to GOP Senate staffer, via Politico: “He said, ‘You’ve got to get Rex [Tillerson] over the finish line for me,” one GOP senate staffer recalled, “because Flynn is crazy.”

I'm legitimately worried about the guy's mental health right now. He's gone so deep into this caricature it's destroys his brain cells. Not to mention Melania's negative body language whenever they're seen near each other.

Plus his family has a history of dementia
