Companies don't want their products to last 60 years. They purposefully build products to break down after a certain time, after warranty.It isn't only Amana. There's like two companies making every appliance now, and just slapping different brand stickers on them.
I heard an old man call into a home improvement radio show because his 60 year old stove and water heater finally needed to be replaced in the house he grew up in, and he wanted an expert opinion on what modern brand would last that long. The hosts laughed at him and said he'll be lucky to get more than 10 years out of anything he buys.
