The Wall

This is probably a sidetrack, but I have to say...this is a pretty weird take from someone who’s otherwise a market fundamentalist. Like, there’s a overwhelming market reality as to why these jobs are filled by immigrants and not by, as you suggest, homeless natives. Don’t get me wrong, I think it sucks, too—but not for the same reason you do. My objection is that an undocumented immigrant workforce is subject to exploitation (and concurrent depression of wages overall, etc) because of their legal status. My solution would be more along the lines of changing what it means to be “illegal.” That’s a meritocratic solution, which conservatives and libertarians should get behind, no?

But, speaking as someone who professionally interacts with people who are on the streets, as you say, I think what you’re suggesting is a tougher ask than you’re allowing. Should we pay more attention to it as a society? Absolutely. Would it be cheap or easy to do? Absolutely not. And here’s where the logic of the market, which you usually seem to like, comes calling. The amount of social investment involved in transitioning a homeless person into a self-sufficient worker is exponentially more than that of hiring an immigrant. Now, SHOULD we do that? IMO, yeah, to a much greater extent than we do. But your otherwise pro-business, pro-market rhetoric argues loudly against it, because of the price tag.

There's no merit based need. We need people to do the ****ty work. We need people to do the jobs for minimum wage that entitled second and later gen americans won't do. Like say farmers.

I agree.

Let them come but vet them so we don't have criminals like we had in sanctuary cities. Blacks aren't going to do that work, whites most definitely not unless they can score Meth. Just imagine you tel Jamal to pick apples at $6 an hour. Look at Chris Rock video about police and see how the thug reacted, it would be the same.

I don’t think I love anything to the same degree that thethe fears non whites

So glad no white males ever do anything wrong in the USA. That’s what we really need more of.

I like he can take single instances of something to prove his point but no sells it when people do the same thing to support their point. You can take any group and find heinous **** done by some of them.

Congress appropriated $1.57 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to build Donald Trump's wall last year. That built 1.7 miles worth of fence, according to the updates Congress has gotten from the administration. That's according to documents filed in a challenge from 20 state attorneys general and the Sierra Club to block Trump's emergency declaration to use money not appropriated by Congress for that purpose to build it.

That's going to be news to the bloated orange one, who claimed just this week that "The wall is being built as we speak. We'll have almost 500 miles of wall by the end of next year." At roughly $1 billion per linear mile, it's safe to say that's not going to be happening.

Trump's not going to let the "Haters," or reality, stop his fantasy life, however. Not when he still has Twitter. "Much of the Wall being built at the Southern Border is a complete demolition and rebuilding of old and worthless barriers with a brand new Wall and footings. Problem is, the Haters say that is not a new Wall, but rather a renovation. Wrong, and we must build where most needed…." he spluttered Wednesday morning. "Also, tremendous work is being done on pure renovation—fixing existing Walls that are in bad condition and ineffective, and bringing them to a very high standard!" he insisted in the follow-up tweet.

So, to sum up, Trump is still telling his gullible followers that he is building the wall. Also he's not building the wall. Also, Mexico still isn't paying for it.
