I would too, but i dont see anyone taking on his contract.
On this we can agree.
The Markakis signing was the biggest head scratcher of the offseason for me.
I would too, but i dont see anyone taking on his contract.
With Mallex coming, and Markakis unfortunately not going anywhere, and they'll need a power bat at some point, someone has to go.
Unfortunately it has to be Maybin.
I would MUCH rather trade Markakis.
I really like Maybin a lot. Just seems like a great dude
You are a trip, you argue so much against trading Maybin. But now a few rumors come out backing up what I told you months ago that you argued against and you say "Maybin has to go".
That said, I don't agree that Maybin has to go. Will he go? Most likely, but that is because how they value others and him. Simple as that.
PS: I don't like the idea of trading Maybin just to dump CJ's contract since I seriously doubt that includes much in return. I rather package CJ with Grilli as someone else suggested than dump Maybin that way.
Im saying this because no one will take on Markakis' deal.
I hope we keep Maybin, hes been good and seems to love it down close to his family.
If it was my way, i'd have Maybin, Mallex and FA bopper in the outfield.
The money argument is stupid, there's not much money on the payroll next year.
Packaging Maybin with CJ is mind-boggling dumb, and two, we arent getting Heyward or Justin, so throw that out the window.
Just keep Maybin, unless a team if offering a really good prospect.
Even still, you arent gonna find better value than Maybin on the FA market than Maybin at 8 mil next year and 9 mil in 2017, thats some good value.
Markakis, Mallex, Markakis probably is very light offensively but if they cant land one of Justin or Jason, then what can ya do.

By the way, on Maybin: He's been playing well for the Braves and ATL not open to dealing him now.
Stupid is as stupid does
We also weren't open to dealing Kimbrel.
Yep. I think the key might be that we're not open to dealing Maybin...alone. That was the thing with Kimbrel. I don't think we were going to deal him by himself but the opportunity to get rid of Melvin was too good to pass up. I think if a team is willing to take CJ, you'll see a deal get done.
I’m still not convinced that any free agent, and likely any available trade bat, is going to out perform Maybin in left over the course of a season. As much as I’d love to have Justin there, the money and lack of consistency doesn’t make him THAT much better an option.
I think Cespedes is clearly better...but doubt we pay his price plus a pick.
