That's a shame. You're in an underappreciated and undercompensated field that could benefit a lot from good union representation. Good being the key word obviously.

there is nothing wrong with using tweets to show a point, direct to other sources or just that one finds another's take on a subject insightful or just funny.

Yep. It's incredible that any "gender" quotas are still in place now that it's just a social construct and not anatomical.

Hmm. Race is also a social construct. It seems only fair that if anyone can identify as any gender (or combination of genders!) then anyone could identity as a minority to qualify for college admissions preference, scholarships, minority loan programs, affirmative action hires, minority boardroom quotas, minority specific awards...

I think I may start identifying as a gay, black, trans woman. All your intersectionality points are belong to me!

I think we've had this conversation about college admissions. My kids could have checked off a lot of boxes. But that would have been an abuse of a system that is supposed to help people who come from underprivileged backgrounds. It seems to me colleges can accomplish this without relying so much on race/ethnicity as a proxy.

I'm a firm believer that there is a lot of value to diversity in a work/educational environment, especially diversity of perspectives and life experiences. Only a fraction of that relates to things like sex and race/ethnicity.

Yeah. The really unfortunate part to me is that they could get an even better mix without the focus on ancestry. Unfortunately only the right kinds of diversity seem to be important. It's more about being able to check boxes than achieve positive results.

To circle back to Haaland, I think there is a lot to be said about her having pulled herself up from a disadvantaged situation. She's been homeless, on food stamps, a single mom, etc. I'm sure she has a level of compassion from having had to deal with all that.
