Trade deadline thread

Given that Graveman (4.85 FIP, 1.5 years control) just got traded for 50 FV prospect, I think I can finally accept that Malloy (40+) for JJ (3.20 FIP, 1 year control) was a shrewd move.

It feels like this years trade deadline premium is particularly steep.

If it isn’t Snell, Stroman, or somebody of that caliber then don’t waste the resources. If we wouldn’t start them in the first 3 games of a best of 5 then just stick with what we have.

Correct. Unless they are essentially a free #5 SP.

And he was placed on waivers and then passed on by every other MLB team. That’s how the Braves were able to claim him.

Are people even paying attention?

I think AA knew he had 1-2 starts to fill and Chirinos was a convenient option instead of needing to burn an option. He’s replacement level replacing replacement level.

I saw where the Giants are interested in Vaughn Grissom. Not sure how that’d work with them being in the playoff hunt and buyers as well.

I'm sure alot of teams are, i wouldnt trade Vaughn away right now. This winter is when i think thats something you explore.

Jace Peterson might be a reasonable target, but he can't play shortstop. Finding a passable back-up shortstop always seems to be the big issue when looking for a super-utility guy. There's a reason why toothpick bats like Adrianza stick around and it's because they can be at least an average short-term shortstop.

Tommy Edman is the obvious answer, imo.

Grissom is the most Giants player ever. He's pesky and can play adequately in a super-utility role, if given the chance I bet.

Yeah he has good value so can’t waste it on a rental. It only makes sense to trade him for somebody controllable.

The article I saw said he had "strong defense at both SS and 2b." Clearly written by someone who has never watched him play SS even once.

I don't know, this is a team that just started Yonny Chirinos. Also, Elder is going to blow past his highest career innings. We could use rotation depth.

I’ll never argue against rotation depth.

What I’m saying is AA needs to get a playoff SP, and that statement holds true regardless of how much rotation depth he happens to acquire. This team needs to compete in the playoffs, not worry about which replacement level SP starts a few regular season games.

That's fair.

I like Lugo from that list. He's doing well this year as a starter, and the nice thing about him as that if we do get healthy he can be a long man in the playoffs.
