Trades/acquisitions

There is a healthy number of non-libs who want everyone to know just how much they are against the current bad act of the moment and how they want to destroy everyone remotely associated with it.

Usually for crimes against young women, children or dogs.
Well stated. Back to baseball....

I think about 100% of the board wants Ozuna to burn if he’s guilty but Green Penis took the xtra mile with the police lying on minorities bull sh*t…

You're the moron who jumped in. And my penis is twice yours. If you want a man measuring contest, this ain't the place for it.

So, in a bullpen that needs as much help as it can get, we’re going to acquire a premiere closer and then trade off our current best reliever. Seems counter productive.

That’s “if” we were selling at the deadline. Thinking I would rather have Kimbrel instead of Smith next year.

If you truly believe this doesn't happen (and happens with a sad level of frequency) then I have a bridge to sell you. I'm not saying that in Ozuna's specific case but to disclaim it as a whole is asinine.

SO MUCH TESTOSTERONE IN THIS THREAD

FWIW, my [only] industry source (though he's reliable) is saying the Braves are active in both the small and big-move markets and that they have a real interest in Donaldson. The team is pretty confident Ozuna will be out a full year so they'll not have to dig deeper for money in 2022.

i was thinking about a Donaldson reunion last week. I'd welcome him back in a heartbeat, but they'd have to eat at least a years worth off that contract.

Again, just what I've heard. But the thinking has been Ender + a decent to good prospect (Wilson or Wright, probably) would do the trick. Atlanta eats a ton of money but doesn't pay much more given the Ozuna situation.

Donaldson has fallen out of favor a bit with the sporting press up here in Minnesota. Although he's a much better player than A.J. Pierzynski (sorry A.J.), Donaldson brings to mind the saying credited to one of Pierzynski's former teammates who said "When he's on the other team, you hate him. When he's on your team, you hate him a little less."

Twins are an absolute mess right now. They've been very analytics-driven in their approach, but injuries (most notably Buxton, Kepler, Garver) have bedeviled them and the analytics betrayed them on some guys. Falvey and Levine have a lot of rope and Baldelli appears to enjoy the same status. Pitching has been really spotty other than Berrios and before you complain too much about the Braves' bullpen, the Twins' bullpen has been atrocious. They have some promising younger players (Kiriloff and Larnach among them), but Polanco appears to have plateaued, Arraez has had an off year, and Sano is on his way to eating himself out of the league.

They will move Cruz before the deadline and rumors are swirling around Berrios. Haven't heard much buzz around Donaldson and Twins would be sending a huge chunk of change (which the Pohlad's are always loath to do) to move him. Twins saw him as the missing piece to glory and it's not his fault that he hasn't turned into that given the pandemic and the Twins' collapse this season. Curious to see how it turns out.

I did a little research the other day and I found it interesting that Anthopoulos is totally the other side of the coin in Atlanta than he was in Toronto. In Toronto, he traded a lot of prospect capital (notably Syndegaard, Musgrove, Norris, DeSclafani, Boyd, Barreto, and Graveman) in a variety of deals for established players. He hasn't done that in Atlanta. Maybe the international sanctions have contributed to that, but I find it interesting.

Padres looking to add to their lineup before the deadline. Willing to go over the luxury tax in the process. Starling Marte would be an interesting option among others.

The smart play would be to move him and eat as much as they are comfortable with to get the best return possible. Donaldson has performed about how you would expect with the Twins. He's put up 2.6 fWAR in 103 games for them with a 128 WRC+. That's good for a 4 WAR pace in a full season. But as you would expect he's missed about 55 games in his short time there. At his age and history I think it was a miracle he played in 155 games for the Braves. He's still a good player but he can't be run out there everyday.

Not surprising. I think they should look more to their pitching though. Their relievers have the most innings in baseball which can catch up to you by the end of the season.
