Donaldson has fallen out of favor a bit with the sporting press up here in Minnesota. Although he's a much better player than A.J. Pierzynski (sorry A.J.), Donaldson brings to mind the saying credited to one of Pierzynski's former teammates who said "When he's on the other team, you hate him. When he's on your team, you hate him a little less."
Twins are an absolute mess right now. They've been very analytics-driven in their approach, but injuries (most notably Buxton, Kepler, Garver) have bedeviled them and the analytics betrayed them on some guys. Falvey and Levine have a lot of rope and Baldelli appears to enjoy the same status. Pitching has been really spotty other than Berrios and before you complain too much about the Braves' bullpen, the Twins' bullpen has been atrocious. They have some promising younger players (Kiriloff and Larnach among them), but Polanco appears to have plateaued, Arraez has had an off year, and Sano is on his way to eating himself out of the league.
They will move Cruz before the deadline and rumors are swirling around Berrios. Haven't heard much buzz around Donaldson and Twins would be sending a huge chunk of change (which the Pohlad's are always loath to do) to move him. Twins saw him as the missing piece to glory and it's not his fault that he hasn't turned into that given the pandemic and the Twins' collapse this season. Curious to see how it turns out.
I did a little research the other day and I found it interesting that Anthopoulos is totally the other side of the coin in Atlanta than he was in Toronto. In Toronto, he traded a lot of prospect capital (notably Syndegaard, Musgrove, Norris, DeSclafani, Boyd, Barreto, and Graveman) in a variety of deals for established players. He hasn't done that in Atlanta. Maybe the international sanctions have contributed to that, but I find it interesting.
