Uribe and KJ to NYM

I knew KJ playing well would lead to his trade. Sucks. It was great having him back in a Braves uni. Really sucks he was traded to the Mets.

Hopefully he re-signs with us in the offseason. I think your last two posts have been specifically related to KJ (when we signed him and now lol).

KJ "it was just a shock to be traded to a division team only trailing a few games back".

Seems like KJ and the other guys still felt they had a chance to make a run.

The only way this trade makes sense is if it's a salary dump. We gave these guys away for nothing.

I understand KJ and Uribe didn't have much value but this is exactly the kind of haul I didn't want. I'd rather have one risky relief prospect than two soft tossing right handed starters who max out as long relief.

Honestly, we gave up better prospects to get international money.

Again I understand Uribe and Johnson didn't have great value but I think we got jobbed in this deal. It makes no sense to me except as a salary dump.

Money aside, you get more value keeping them, having that veteran influence and building confidence with wins than the value of two guys who profile as minor league roster fodder.

Please point to the time in Braves' history that money could be considered an "aside".

Well Rob Whalen slots in at #24 on our MLBPipeline list, while John Gant is one slot lower at #25. Kind of odd that they would put those two back to back in our farm system, whereas in the Mets system, Whalen was ranked 18th, while Gant wasn't in their top 30.

Exactly, which is why this only makes sense as a salary dump. The return we got wasn't good. We shouldn't fool ourselves about that.

I think this was about clearing up money to spend later. only way it makes sense.

This is the point that the trade I proposed earlier with the Giants makes sense. Maybin, Pierzynski, and Jim Johnson for Andrew Susac, Mac Williamson, and Ray Black saves you another $4.24 million.

Suddenly that's almost $7 million you can devote to international signings/overage taxes next July.

Where are you getting $7MM? Trading Maybin would save the Braves $12MM alone if you factor in what he's due next season.
