Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Although, I thought we'd be done a while ago trading for pitching so I guess I wouldn't be surprised by anything.

They are looking for MLB pitching that has some control remaining. That points to intention to compete next year. One team to keep an eye on is the Rays. They could be looking to trade one of Smyly, Moore or Odorizzi. Smyly and Moore are LHed, and might make a solid addition to the rotation if the Braves think they can get their run prevention under control a bit more.

I'd actually be pretty happy trading for one of Smyly or Moore. It would further weaken the SP market and they would be good buy low candidates.

Smyly is a little scary, but Moore and Odorizzi would be good gets for us, as well as weaken the options out there as well. I really like Odorizzi.

Moore just hasn't been the same since coming back from the major injury. He hasn't been great this season. Too risky for me. Smyly to me is a good buy low candidate though, and I like Odorizzi. The Rays are shrewd though, I can't see them dumping for cheap.

"2. Julio Teheran, RHP, Braves — The Red Sox will be in this hunt when the time is right, having scouted Teheran extensively. Former Braves GM Frank Wren, who is now Dave Dombrowski’s right-hand man in Boston, is a big fan of Teheran. Wren was behind the Craig Kimbrel deal and could also fight for this one. Wren also traded for current Braves closer Arodys Vizcaino, Mike Dunn, and Melky Cabrera from the Yankees for Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan."

Red Sox fans are delusional if they think that Moncada and Benintendi are off limits. We could be delusional to think they are in play. But we have the upper hand completely here. Somebody will overpay for him it's just a matter of who. Bc Coppy won't settle for less.

From MLB Trade Rumors extracted from a Boston Herald article:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/red-sox-notes-sps-rodney-farrell-groome.html

"There’s an expectation around baseball that president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski will aggressively seek rotation upgrades in advance of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, which could mean moving top prospects like infielder Yoan Moncada and outfielder Andrew Benintendi, per Drellich, who adds that Dombrowski does value the two highly."

Teheran is worth one of them plus Swihart. Viz has a lot of value but not enough for Benintendi so We'd have to add like Sims and maybe a Dustin Peterson. So Teheran, Viz, Sims, and Peterson for Moncada, Benintendi, and Swihart who says no?

Peterson is barely a prospect at all, they aren't going to care about him, Sims isn't even really close top 100 guy himself, not like either are going to make them want to move someone. Basically the Sox would say no, to answer your question. With Dombrowski in charge not entirely out of the real of possibility they move Moncada, but extremely unlikely.

We might be able to pull off something like Moncada and Kopech for Julio and Viz, or maybe if we are really lucky Benintendi, Devers or Kopech, and Espinoza for those two.

I don't really get why folks want Swihart at this point though, he's pretty meh hittingwise and he can't play catcher defensively, so pretty much not worth much.

I wouldn't leave Houston out of the JT talks. They have righted the ship and playing better ball. I think they are buyers this deadline.

They'll be buyers, but I don't know if they will heavily pursue a flyball pitcher.

I always laugh when people downgrade Dustin Peterson. Granted, he's not Moncada or Benintendi, but I think he can play a little bit.

I highly doubt the Red Sox would trade both Benintendi and Moncada in one deal or separate deals. If we could get one in a deal for Teheran with some other parts thrown in on both sides, it would probably balance. I wouldn't be against Henry Owens coming back to us. He's having a terrible year, but he's only 23 and was a highly-ranked prospect not too long ago. I don't know if Swihart can be a big-league C, so I don't see his value to us being that high.

We have the luxury of being picky. If the Red Sox only want to deal second tier prospects, they don't get Teheran. Simple as that. Maybe there's not a match there. If not, I won't be too broken up about it.
