Viz and Teheran listed as top trade candidates

Not sure I'd trade him at this point. Going to have to get a MONSTER offer.

The Miller return pales in comparison. If the Sox' offer doesn't start with Moncada, I'd pass.

Since May 1 he's been dominating as well as about any pitcher in the game. Only 4 pitchers have lower ERA's over that span.

I gotta agree with Clvclv. JT's value at this point is through the roof. If you're dealing with Boston, it has to start with Moncada, or no deal. It's not just the talent we'd be letting loose. It's the ridiculously team friendly contract that he's signed through the next like 4 years.

Gotta sell high on Julio. He will never be better than he is now. His value can only diminish. I like him a lot. But I love the idea of getting a star hitting prospect for him. Julio could fall off at any moment due to injury or diminishing velocity.

Moncada and Benintendi could be ready in 2017 so your timeline isn't really pushed back that far. Especially with Folty finally figuring it out.

My goodness at this point if Julio stays anywhere near the level he is now and even slightly drop off hes one of the beSt in the game.

All depends on the return. It's definitely the right time to seek a deal, especially if we're skeptical that he will keep this up, but you still don't trade him just to trade him because his value is high. If someone isn't willing to give you what you're looking for, then you keep the young potential TOR starter with 4 team-friendly years left.

Exactly. If the Red Sox are willing to overpay and give us Moncada and Benintendi for Julio and Viz then by all means pull the trigger. But otherwise we might as well just hold on to him. He's pitching like an Ace now, so unless we are blown away no reason to move him.

Julio is controlled this year and for FOUR more years. If you count this years salary, he is owed about $40 million dollars total. Right now JT has a 3.4 WAR. Baring major collapse or injury, I don't see any way JT doesn't hit 5 WAR this year. Now assume he hits is average of 3 WAR the remaining 4 years and JT would have a total of 17 WAR... 7 million per and that is roughly 120 million in actual value. That gives a team $80 million in Surplus value. That is very hard to replace... Not sure what the expected WAR of a top 10 talent through his arb years is, but I seriously doubt it reaches 80 million in surplus. So basically JT is worth a top 10 +....

Will another team see and agree with this.. not sure, which is why I don't see us trading JT anymore. I think JT has pitched himself out of the market.

I think he's on the market, but if we move him, it will have to be a complete haul given what you've outlined.

Here's the question. Which scenario is better for 2017 and beyond?

Pitching staff headlined by Julio and Folty with a line up of Albies, Swanson, Freeman, Ruiz, Inciarte, Smith, Flowers, and Markakis; or a pitching staff headlined by Folty and Wisler with a line up that has Albies, Swanson, Freeman, Moncada, Inciarte, Smith, Swihart, and Benintendi?

I know some are saying that is an overpay for Julio, but if Boston wants him, that's the kind of package it will take.

Throw in a decent pitching prospect to go along with Moncada, Swihart, and Benintendi and I'd give them Vizcaino too. Normally I'm in favor of trading assets separately for better return, but in this case with Julio and Viz meeting both of the Sox needs I think we'd do better with the blockbuster.

This is why I'm still in the Trade Julio camp as long as it's a good deal for us. I think we have a much stronger chance of replacing Julio in the rotation with our prospects than we would filling holes in our lineup with our current group of position players.

So, let us say that Teheran is kept. Coppy wants to get Will Myers bad. What does San Diego want for him?

Personally think this is the most likely scenario - at least part of it. Allard, Jenkins, and Davidson or Acuna perhaps?

KLaw says he can't see Sox trading Moncada and Benintendi for Teheran and Viz.

No one who isn't a Braves fan thinks they would do that. The Rangers wouldn't even trade Profar straight up for Teheran as of like a week ago. I hate to keep saying the same thing, but the trades being talked about here and in Bill Shanks' moronic article today are the kind of talks that make people mad when actual trade returns don't meet expectations.
