We need a new manager!!!

Bottom line: Medlen needed to pitch like he did against Lee for us to beat Kershaw and that didn't even come close to happening. That's why we lost and not for anything Fredi did or didn't do.

I agree, I said before he could maybe give up 1-2 runs.

He looked great in the first, then after that, just couldn't do much.

BJ will never be a gold glove unless he's in a James Bond movie...........his defense is average at best.

You absolutely cannot blame Fredi Gonzalez for Game 1. The guys on the field did not take care of business. Medlen didn't pitch well. Heyward overthrowing the cut-off man. Gattis missing on a dive. Johnson not able to make a play he probably should have. All of that is on the players.

If anything, Fredi should be in consideration for Manager of the Year. Yeah, I said it. Consider:

Two of the top relievers going down with Tommy John Surgery
Heyward missing basically two months with an appendectomy and a fractured jaw
Getting just about nothing from Beachy because of his elbow
No McCann for the first month
Another dismal season from Uggla
A really dismal season from B.J.
Losing Hudson in late July

All that and the Braves won the N.L. East by a rather comfortable margin. Fredi deserves his due for this season.

Do we still need a new manager? Or is that a day to day decision?

mossy you are wasting your time on here. Have you not gotten the memo? It was the same way with Bobby. Braves win inspite of the manager and when they lose its because of him. It's amazing....

Freddi managed an absolutely awful game today.

Outside of maybe not keeping Minor in, and not hitting for EJ, I can't disagree much on Fredi tonight.

The HR was a ridiculousally good piece of hitting by Hanley, he stuck his bat out and it went over barely.

He was fine.

The only thing Fredi did that I was surprised by was taking both Gattis and McCann out with 3 innings left. He did it to give us the strongest offense (BJ running) and defense (BJ/Laird) but I don't see BC doing that. After the HR Fredi looked a little worried. If Laird gets hurt or the game goes to extra innings he could be screwed.

He didn't have to bring in Laird to keep BJ out there. Just move Gattis to catcher and problem solved. Gattis is a better catcher than Laird. Even defensively. Just a terrible terrible move that could've proved devastating.

I argued after game one that Fredi didn't cost us the game, that he wasn't to blame. But tonight is another story, Fredi had a bad game. A manager can have a good game managing and still lose. But he can also have a bad game managing and still win. Tonight both managers made bad mistakes but those made by Don Mattingly proved the most costly. The walk of the rusty and not even 100% Reed Johnson to face Heyward was a terrible move. Thankfully for us it also proved key as Heyward drove in the runs that proved the difference.

That's what I thought he was gonna do but Gattis IS NOT a better catcher than the veteran Laird. He's a rookie with very little experience. Gattis makes a costly mistake behind the plate and people would be moaning about Fredi not using Laird. He can't win.

It was a risky move if Laird got hurt but it made our defense better after McCann had been pitch run for.

Gattis is better at framing. Stronger arm. Laird is better at blocking balls in the dirt. Might have a more accurate arm.

And, in our (Fredi realists) defense, most of us call him out on bad moves BEFORE the result and stick with it regardless. Gattis messing up wouldn't have resulted in us saying Fredi should've used Laird. Not at all.

It's been that way all year. People hate him for some reason despite how much success he's had. Two things I've come to realize. The bashing will continue and he'll be our manager for a very long time.

This is utter nonsense, Gattis is a good pitch framer while Laird isn't. Laird also tends to call pitches backwards (hoping to trick the batter, though he's did it so long everyone knows by now). If Laird was a better catcher than Gattis how do you explain the team having such a losing record when Laird starts? That's hard to do on a team that wins 96 games!

SSS, Laird probably caught no more than 15-20 games.
