What about Josh Donaldson?

What? Hos, Moose? Simmons is a better player than Escobar.
Moose was worse than CJ this year. You're pulling **** out of your ass.
The Braves had a better staff FIP and xFIP as well as more QS. Our pitching is better.

Then why are we on the couch and the Royals 1 win away from making the ALCS?

That's exactly the point people try and make about the post-season. The Royals aren't some great team. They have a poor manager. It's about luck and timely hits. I mean, do you seriously think Hosmer and Moustakas are good? Just because they were supposed to be doesn't mean they haven't been overall train wrecks.

Hosmer, yes.

Moosetacos, no.

I'd take the Royals core, yeah.

Sal, Hos, Escobar, Moose, Gordon, Cain, and their pitching is lights out.

LOL The only one of those that you mentioned that is any good is Salvador Perez. The rest are garbage to straight up mediocre players.

Lol for real? Hosmer? Moose? Hosmer's WAR was closer to BJs than any other Braves.

Royals starting 8 compiled a 20.9 Braves starting 7 (2B ddn't have enough PT anywhere) was 18.7. Not a big difference. And given that a healthy majority of the Royals advantage comes from defense which is static, I'd take the Braves core for sure.

Pitching wise, they're good, but not otherworldly. The only reason they have a better "future' is more guys under contract. We're missing Ervin and what we got from harang, but this year, our top 5 had an fWAR of 11.2. Royals had one of 12.8. An advantage but not massive.

Royals are in the post season because they don't have completely terrible players at more than 1 spot in their lineup. Even Moostacos played significantly better in the 2nd half, even if he still wasn't that good.

Hosmer was red hot the last couple months of the season, along with Butler and Gordon. And they play small ball better than most NL teams. Plus they play fantastic defense. And they don't strike out. Pretty much the complete opposite of the Braves.

That and the AL and well MLB as a whole this year didn't have many good teams. Only 4 teams won more than 90 games. Lot's of mediocrity this year.

But they do have a great core. Escobar, Hosmer, Gordon, and Perez are all very good. Butler was very good in the past and played well down the stretch. Who knows with Moosetacos. Guys like him can take time to develop. But he has legit power.

Pitching wise, they'll need to replace Shields. Who knows, may be a deep run in the playoffs will make the owner open his wallet.

Even if they lose Shields, they'd still have Duffy, Ventura, Vargas, and Guthrie, not great but not horrible.

Could slide Davis in the rotation if they need too.

But they might as well pay Shields.

Royals had a nice season. Outplayed their Pythagorean by 5 games, so some things went well for them. Won a bunch of close games. Good defense and a lot of guys in the bullpen who throw hard. Thing about them is that their line-up is young. Gordon is the only guy 30 or over who is crucial to the team's success. Hard to believe Billy Butler is still only 28.

I don't know if they can repeat the magic next year. A lot will depend on whether or not their ownership opens their wallet.

Other than Shields, they dont have anyone else to re-sign thats hugely important i dont think.

Aoki too but he shouldnt cost alot.

Their FAs are Shields, Hochevar, and Aoki. Butler is on an option Chen is on an option Wade Davis is on an option, Assuming they pick up Butler's and Davis's optiona nd decline Chen, they're at 62.5 before arbs and rookies. Their arbs are Holland, Hosmer, Crowe, Collins, Maxwell, Moustakos, Cain, Valencia. They can easily wind up close to 92M before it starts.

Of their arbitration guys, 4 are probably needed going forward, but Crowe, Collins, and Valencia are all replaceable. I think they will let Aoki walk and we'll have to see on Shields. One last big payday looms for him and I can think of a few teams that will pay him.

Shields is in line for a huge payday, his first/last, same with Lester/Scherzer.

He has a ton of innings on his arm and will be 32 or 33.

Not saying i'd let him walk but i dont know if i'd go a ton of years with him.
