Why Do Liberals Hate 'American Sniper'?

I could care less to see the movie - before or after controversy.
"Blockbusters" leave me feeling used

The mentions of Forrest Gump are apropos.
"simple is as simple does"

My understanding is Taibbi is now the operator of the Mojo Wire

Don't be ripping on my former Governor! Seriously, worst governor ever.

I imagine liberals hate the Iraq/Afghanistan incursions to the extent that anything associated with them will face a high bar for critical acclaim. For those of us old enough, it was pretty much the same with the Vietnam War.

I don't know if I'll see "American Sniper" or not. My decision will have nothing to do with the way I felt about those wars. I thought Eastwood handled "Flags of my Fathers" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" in an extremely balanced manner and I would be surprised if his approach wasn't the same here. I would guess it's more about the soldier and less about the war.

Ventura is a pretty terrible human being. Been a bull****ter his whole life. Except in Predator. Predator was awesome.

Michael Moore in context:

"My dad was in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific in World War II. His brother, my uncle, Lawrence Moore, was an Army paratrooper and was killed by a Japanese sniper 70 years ago next month. My dad always said, "Snipers are cowards. They don't believe in a fair fight. Like someone coming up from behind you and coldcocking you. Just isn't right. It's cowardly to shoot a person in the back. Only a coward will shoot someone who can't shoot back."

He actually did say it. Then he explained himself once it became an issue.

This film is blatantly propagandic in nature, but that doesn't mean it can't be cinematographically valuable.

See: Leni Riefensthal's Nazi work.

Or Capra's work on Why We Fight. Hell, Divide and Conquer left we wanting to join up immediately to fight Hitler's scourge.

Saw it tonight - story was well told and moving. Unfortunate his life had to end the way it did. I'd recommend it to everyone.

Excellent movie and Cooper was pretty durn strong.

Story is not as focused on him actually gunning people down as much as I'd thought, just highlights. Mostly about the toll of coming and going from family to another tour and the effects. Kinda obvious Moore didn't see the movie because over half the movie he is clearing houses door to door with Marines. The most dangerous job out there.

I had read the book and found it interesting but not a page turner.... Eastwood did a nice job making a story from it.

I haven't seen "American Sniper" yet, but has anyone here seen "Enemy at the Gates?" It starred Jude Law, Ed Harris, and Joseph Fiennes. It was set in WWII and the basic story line was a duel between a Russian and German sniper. Truly interesting movie and it was all about propaganda, especially on the Russian side. Curious to see if there is any valid comparison here.

Why even have weapons? We should just roll over there and bare knuckle fight them.

P.S., the Iraqis and Al Queda have snipers as well.
