GDT 9/30/24: Braves vs Mets - DH Game 2

I feel like SD is overlooking the Braves by not starting Cease ..but then again this team is predictable and not surprising.

They can have an historical offensive season and people would still feel like they would get bounced early...or they can be average and you still would have confidence in them "shocking the world" and making run...Basically whatever concern or worry you have about this team means that it will likely happen.

King and Musgrove are pretty damn good, but i would have gone Cease game 1 too.

I would too but we need a lot to go our way for

Our arms to get reset and we fckn can't hit consistently enough for that to happen...

They have to come out early tomorrow and jump on King to get into that SD bullpen.

King has the lowest ERA of their starters. Just gotta keep it close and hope whoever is starting doesnt give away the game in the first few innings.
 
We can only hope the front office micromanages piggybacking bullpen games again like 2021. Otherwise Snit is gonna manage tomorrow like a traditional game (whoever starts he's gonna try to extend to 5 innings like Elder in Philly last time) rather than using all weapons at his disposal. We have a deep pen that might be a little tired. But if you're not gonna punt tomorrow, then you need a piggybacking opener scenario and have a short leash on that opener and on Snitker. Because history has shown that Snit will try to squeeze as many innings as possible then go to the bottom end of the bullpen.

There is no debate as to who had a more impressive managerial season.

Me managing this forum despite the nagging bugs and errors.

vs. Snit having the best opening day roster top to bottom and team surviving injury bugs.

My budget vs. What snit had to work with, it's not even close.
 
We cant punt tomorrow in a 3 game series. It’ll be a bullpen game probably but we cant let guys go to long.

I'd rather they punt, and give the ball to Sale or Fried in G2 with season on line. Snit will just try and over extend whoever Game 2 starter is anyways and it'll end up costing us somehow.

This is same manager that had a rested bullpen that had 5 days off, then days off between Games 1 and 2 then another day off between Game 2 and 3 in the LDS last year and still was trying to extend Elder and then threw Tonkin out there with the game close.
 
Braves aren't in a good spot with Sale out. But I will give it to the team. They were 2 back of WC3 with 9 games left. They went 6-3 and won all 3 series to earn WC2. Hell of a way to end the season considering all the injuries they had. NL was wild this year. Four 90 win teams. Three teams with 89 wins. AL has 3 teams making the playoffs with a worse record than the DBacks.

The Braves run differential was 5th best in baseball which is pretty amazing all things considered.

We scored 2 runs in Game 3, that was on the offense even if Elder should have been pulled.

Without Riley/Sale/Acuna/Strider, that might be too much to overcome. But you never know what can happen in the playoffs. 25 team looks pretty incredible even w/o Fried if he walks. But see what happens, been a hell of a ride though.
 
I am so pissed off at this situation. I like AJSS and think he could do well in game 1 but why wasn't he an option before now. They could have saved SS for game 1 of WC round and used AJSS and Anderson for the DH.
 
Braves can‘t punt game 1. Losing the first game of a playoff series has meant they’re going home for the entirety of this century, with one glorious exception against the Brewers in 2021. And those were all at least best-of-5 sets! I know it‘s easier said than done, but they should go all out tonight.

I think they play it by ear. If they have a lead around 5th or 6th they go for it with anyone in the pen. If they are behind then they ride Elder and whoever in pen and try to reset the big guns and go for it with fried and Lopez.
