The War to Settle the Score - Election Day 2024

New jersey, New Hampshire, New York all more purple than FL and Texas.

And you guys thought you'd get Fl, Tx, and iowa.

Silly geese.

If that was the case then why does it look like NY will flip potentially 3 house seats?

I think you'd confusing apathy for Harris for gains for the republican party.

No one thought Iowa and FL were in the bag, No one thinks Texas is in the bag, but Texas is moving to a more purple state. Or it's republicans will move more liberal. Biden/Harris weren't going to win Texas though.

To this day I think Bernie would have wiped the floor with Trump any of the past 3 elections. The Dems need to spend the next 4 years all but ignoring Donald Trump’s existence in public unless it’s actively centered around how something he does might affect the working class.

Definitely think there's apathy for Harris.

I also think Biden would have done better. Maybe probably wouldn't have won still, but he's still relatable to the blue collar middle class people in the rust belt.

Harris never really had that retail politics skill.

One thing I will agree with thethe on, is Trump has somehow moved the GOP closer to the center than it was before. Whether it's only going to work for Trump, or if it will work for the party down the line and those who run after him remains to be seen.

The right kept telling us Obama was this far left idealogue when he ascended to office, but he never governed that way. And he was very competitive in red states and battleground states. Even carried Senate seats in Indiana, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Montana, etc.

Interesting times for the Dems and the country the next few years.

My incredibly unpopular opinion is AOC will start moving towards the middle a bit and make a play on the Union/Worker populist bid. She has the charisma and presense to go deep

Oh, I completely agree. AOC is very good at this whole politics thing and for the past few years has shown the ability to compromise when she needs to do so. I don’t think she’ll abandon the left nor do I think she’ll need to. For 8+ years now the Democratic Party has courted centrists at the expense of their base in these kinds of elections and it hasn’t worked.

Obama courted centrists and won big twice.

Things were much simpler back then. Back then the main social issue he had to worry about was gay marriage.

Today's Dems have the unenviable task of trying to find ways to take positions to defend trans rights, and other things that are losing battles right now. Republicans are good at passing these things on state level too, to force national politicians to take stands and defend against them.

AOC will learn that soon enough.

AOC hasn't been a big deal since she had to fire her campaign manager 2-3 years ago because of some scandal.

She is a nobody moving forward.

She’s not as famous as she was several years ago, but she’s every bit as good at driving the exact message Zito and I are talking about here.

Mark my words - non-factor going forward.

Big movement in her district as well.

AOC seems to me like she would be trainwreck nationally, but I clearly have zero clue what plays well in elections, so idk… maybe she would do well?

If you mean AoC would be good at more inciting and hateful rhetoric then yeah she’s your gal

You should follow the advice of some rando that has been attributed to Mark Twain.

“It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt”

I also think Biden would have done better.

I don’t know if this is right or wrong, but it’s pretty mind blowing that it even could be true. Biden’s mental acuity was in doubt four years ago. The entire country saw him short circuit multiple times on live tv during the debate (“we finally beat Medicare!”), not to mention the countless other times where his mental and physical deterioration was on display. The idea that more people would’ve rather given him four more years (until he’s 86!) than vote for his VP is just astounding.

Before he dropped out of the race, I felt like anyone voting for him had to know they were likely voting for Harris to be elevated to the seat anyway at some point during the next four years.

Think audits are just as important this time around.

Trumps lasting legacy needs to be deportations and clean elections.
